наконец-то дослушал альбом до конца, уж больно длинный и эпичный (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headcrab.png)
впринципе, ничего особенного от этих финнов не ждал, в итоге не разочарован)
альбом понравился, длина трэков не напрягает, единственное фэ - хотелось бы более развитого мелодизма и местами более быстрых вставок

С сожалением вынужден согласиться, что альбом скучный. И "атмосферные" интерлюдии все только усугубляют. Создается впечатление монотонной, натужной работы. Как будто это не викинги, а какие-то чухонские пахари впряглись в плуг и отпахали барщину.

Great album! Not their best, but i'll give it 9/10

Finns were not Vikings... You gotta understand that.
Ville himself said in an interview that they are not singing about any pre-christian/folk stuff anymore. The lyrics are about pagan mindset and discontent with the present.
This new album has post-apocalyptic lyrics.
I'm damn happy Moonsorrow isn't like Korpiklaani or some other 'happy metal' or 'heroic' band. Melancholic and sorrowful pagan metal ftw (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile1.gif)

That argument is void and false.

Finnish paganism is similar to "Norse" paganism, but it's still different. So it can be "viking-like" and still NOT be viking.

There are no vikings in their album art, and those pictures are not really outspoken-viking, now are they? Please stop confusing 'paganism' with 'viking'.

Finnish people are closer related to Hungarians than they are to Norwegians or Swedes.

And I agree that this specific image is "viking" so to speak. But if there are viking-like events depicted on one image, that doesn't make the entire band "viking" per se ;-)

Besides, Finland was conquered by the vikings (quite a lot Finnish place-names are Swedish in the core, for instance - same goes for surnames as Toivonen and Nygеrd to name a few metal-musicians). So there's quite a lot of 'viking' history to be found in Finland. So I am not surprised a lot of people don't understand the difference.

Moonsorrow's depiction of the vikings might be the same as England's depiction of the Normans: that of a conquering tribe/people, at the time seen as oppressors, that eventually becomes a shared historical icon. This is the same reason Turisas made an album about Varangians.

'Vikings' are the Odin-worshipping Germanic people that lived on Iceland, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Finnic tribes had their own pagan religion (sharing many traits with Odinism, but still) and are Uralic in origin.

To go short: there are indeed parallels, since the borders of modern-day Finland and Sweden are different from the way they were 1000+ years ago, but the Finnish are NOT Vikings even though the differences are only subtle on a first glance.


Voimasta isn't outspokenly Viking and Thor's hammer is seen in Finnish paganism a lot - with a slightly different meaning AND named "Ukko's Hammer" instead - Amorphis also uses it in cover-art etc. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ukonvasara - like previously mentioned, both religions share many many traits.

Well, i don't argue about Finnish nation, i argued only about the band. Their style is a lot like vikings, though they may be not. But it's like american english and english from England. The difference is minimal. For me the main criteria is music, not lyrics and other details, and Moonsorrow fits folk/viking music quite well.

Для тех кто знакомится с творчеством группы начинает именно с этого альбома....может он и покажется не плохим....ибо соответствует всем канонам жанра.....типа эпичность и народные мелодии там))) Но хочется сразу же предупредить таковых...что сабж является тенью от былого величия группы....пускай и не плохой ....но все же тенью......Похоже...что это и есть олицетворение кризиса жанры.....Долгие годы предшедствующие записи последнего альбома ...не пошли чухонцам на пользу......о чем свидетельствует....крик отчаяния в 6- ом треке Kuolleille ....скорее всего это крик продюссера...Хотя местами очень даже не плохо.....но этих мест с каждым альбомом все меньше и меньше...
