После первых двух гениальных альбомов лучшей венгерской группы Sear Bliss - Phantoms (1996) и The Haunting (1998) я всё время ждал от них повторения той гениальности, или хотя бы чего-то близкого к этому. Но, увы, так за 11 лет и не дождался. Хотя, несомненно, за это время было много хороших альбомов и классных композиций. Вот и The Arcane Odyssey - очень качественный альбом, типичный фирменный стиль Sear Bliss в нём легко узнаваем. Мощный атмосферный блэк с уникальной для "чёрного металла" духовой секцией - и всё это на полном серьёзе, без тени иронии, или стёба, в своей собственной выкриссталлизированной и устоявшейся за годы манере. Характер музыки, как всегда, мрачноват и печален (чего вы хотите от группы с таким названием), но практически в каждой композиции есть переходы в этакие "позитивные" (скажем так) куски-фрагменты, несущие в себе умеренный оптимизм, возвышенность, величие, красоту - за это, наверное, и люблю Sear Bliss. Очень порадовал качественный звук - впрочем, венгры всегда умели работать со звуком. (Даже на концертах у них в этом плане полный порядок.) Если говорить конкретно по композициям - считаю, альбом ровный, нет ярковыраженных хитов, провалов тоже нет. Правда, Thorns Of Deception и Omen Of Doom показались чуть менее яркими, а Blood On The Milky Way (поэтическое название!) и Path To The Mother Land, наоборот, чуть более интересными. Но это лишь мои субъективные ощущения. Отдельных слов заслуживает Path To The Mother Land - возможно, это самая нетипичная вещь для всего творчества Sear Bliss (включая демки). Андраш Наги и компания здесь поэкспериментировали с фолк-мелодией - звучит необычно и клёво! В целом, альбом хорош - хочется верить, что венгры на пути к яркости и гениальности своих самых первых работ. 8.5/10
