My mp3 player died and I had to get a new one. I have spent days reorganizing my mp3 files and have begun loading my new mp3 player with music. Yes, I have several recommendations from RYM folks, but the decision on what new music to listen to 1st on the mp3 came down to the new Black Majesty album or Key to the Paradox. Well, since I am writing a review for Key to the Paradox, by the Austrian melodic death metal band Trashcanned, I think you know what my first album off of my mp3 player is.
The basic sound of Key to the Paradox is Swedish mdm, with a good bit of Dark Tranquillity and even some Insomnium to the music. I love this and some of the nice melodic atmospheric portions found on Key to the Paradox. What makes this album more interesting than many mdm of this style, is the variety of sounds and tempos found on it. There are certainly some songs with a speedier tempo and some power/thrash influence at times while still retaining this swedish mdm base sound. This works great for me as I enjoyed all the songs on Key to the Paradox, except for the last one which is more post metal/atmospheric sludgy perhaps with some more modern keyboards found too. I could have done without this song, but perhaps modern metal folks may like it better.

The vocals on Key to the Paradox for the most part fall into the core-ish death style, occasionally wandering a bit more on the death side of things and sometimes leaning more toward the core side of things. It sounds as if perhaps there is 2 different vocalists at times on Key to the Paradox. Whatever the case, I enjoy the vocals and think they are excellent and should not be a deterrent to folks who dislike core vocals, because I definitely fall into that category and I liked the vocals. I can't imagine fans of Swedish MDM music would not enjoy this release. A very strong 4 star on 1st listen from me, but I think Key to the Paradox has a very real possibility of getting a 4.5 star from me.

От себя добавлю, пожалуй, что классического шведского мдм здесь нет, это скорее финская ветка без модерновых финтифлюшек и чистого вокала. Отсылки на ДТ лично мне не понятны, а вот влияние Insomnium и Be'lakor явно присутствует. Лёгкие ненавязчивые клавиши, красивые соляки, классные мелодии и мощный гроул делают этот релиз приятным для слуха любителей современного мдм'а.

Расслаивающийся альбом, который начинается где-то около наследия шведской мелодик дэтовой сцены, в частности, не зря были упомянуты Insomnium. Первые несколько треков то вокалом, то гитарными приёмами действительно напоминают именно их. Далее по ходу альбома происходит уверенный крен в металкор, который всё больше начинает ощущаться в скриме и в ритм-секции. До модерн мелодик дэта так и не доиграли, впрочем. Где-то до начала последней трети мелодичные гитары и периодически используемые клавишные ещё держат интерес, но самая концовка получилась весьма серой. Также, на мой взгляд, не хватает более активной лид гитарной игры, очень много высушенной риффовки, что, в принципе, характерно для подобной музыки, но здесь удачные соло партии, встревающие время от времени, оказались бы как нельзя кстати. Возможно, тогда и альбом звучал бы действительно интересно.

Таким образом, при некоторых удачных не то чтобы находках, но решениях по ходу диска, в итоге получился ещё один релиз от "подающей надежды" группы, хотя во многом и более качественный, чем то, что мне довелось слышать в данном направлении за последнее время.

Да, кстате, любители МДМа должны это послушать. Вот это и есть пример ненавязчивой, но в тоже время весьма интересной и красивой музыки. Конечно-же, не без "огрешностей" (хотя каждому свое), но мне нравится то, а главное как развивается группа, ведь предыдущий релиз действительно был чем-то несуразным. Этот-же - вполне может быть одним из приятнейшых открытий. Говоря открытий я не подразумеваю что-то новаторское и действительно необычное, нет, даже напротив. Это очень добрый и смелый повтор того, что игралось у многих групп. Скажем, незря уважаемые люди упоминали здесь некие сходства с Insomnium, ибо вторая дорожка для меня - пламенный привет именно от них. Собственно, любителям упомянутой выше банды качать обязательно, хотябы ради одной этой телеги. Послушав ее я просто летел с огорода домой, дабы переслушать заного все диско Инсомниума.
Минусы конечно-же обнаружыл лично для себя...вот кажется мне, что нехватает им резкости, агресси чтоли. Вот еслибы убрать эти легкие (пускай и неплохие) фоновые клавишы, а за место них прописать еще пару гитарных партий и при этом зделать звучание более жостким и плотным, то получился бы просто отличнейшый гитарно-ориентированный мдм. И, да, была бы бас гитара посмачнее, скажем, как у тех же Be'lakor то была бы просто сказка. А так..ну не кошмар, конечно же, но не больше чем интерессный рассказ с занудноватым концом. Но и тут не так все просто, черти как знали, что работа попадется мне на слух, и зделали этот мною любимый переход из последнего трека в первый с помощью использования одинаковых мелодий. Казалось-бы мелоч, но лично мне так намного приятней влится в повторное прослушывание.
Не знаю, как на счет альбома года, рано еще, но на заметку, так сказать на будущее, я себе эту группу взял, буду следить, чего они там творить в дальнейшем будут.

Релиз порадовал, после первой прослушки релиз заинтиговал, а сейчас прям вкатило я прям влился в среднетемповый тягомотный музон и получаю море емоций
Да Инсомниум и Белакор явно повлияли на данный релиз и ето радует
Вобщем музыка под настроение
