Наверное вряд ли кто-то будет спорить с тем, что Celtic Frost — группа уникальная. Во всем. В том числе и в отношении к себе со стороны ширнармасс (издевательски звучит, да? Тем не менее сложно найти хоть сколько-нибудь сведущего в тяжелой музыке человека, никогда не слышавшего CF или хотя бы про CF). Могу поспорить: после четырнадцати лет тишины (относительной, но ничего нового группа не выпускала, так что), прошедших со времени последнего релиза CF, никто не ожидал, что они вернутся с материалом в духе прежнего. Если бы на Monotheist вдруг обнаружился трэш или, того пуще, глэм, я бы воспринял это как личное оскорбление, глубочайшее, вне зависимости от качества новинки. Разумеется, ничего подобного не произошло. Группа представила на суд публики (какой нелепый штамп. Ни за что не поверю, что Ворриору сотоварищи не было наплевать на эту самую публику) довольно странный сплав блэка и... Чего-то еще. Наверное, авангарда, но эти понятия все же друг с другом соотносятся как теплое с мягким. Будем считать, что это просто блэк. Оный просто блэк построен на удивительно одинаковых риффах. Удивительно одинаковых мелодиях. На одном и том же темпе, которому лишь изредка придается ускорение. И так на семьдесят минут (с лишним, если еще бонус-трек). Казалось бы, нафиг. Разве можно это выдержать? Оказывается, да (правда, Триптих слегонца утомляет, но только второй своей частью)! Вот уж и впрямь загадка. Чем-то эта вещь берет за жабры и мне кажется, что я знаю ответ на этот вопрос. Разгадка одна: (безблагодатность? Бвахаха) сонграйтинг. Мерзкое ангельское слово. Посконное песнопись куда лучше звучит, да. С какой-то потусторонней депрессивностью, замогильным настроением, отчужденностью и загадочно подобранными словами они заходят в мозг, распаковывают чемоданы эмоций и поселяются там. Что я помню из текстов?
«I am dying!» (дальше еще «god coming into human flesh», но оно идет после многозначительной оттяжки). Фишер, кстати, произносит последнее слово здесь совершенно неповторимым растянуто-сжатым образом, просто фантастика.
«I deny my own desire».
«No! No! No! No!».
«Why did you forsaken me?»
И все. Сейчас, в напечатанном вне контекста виде, выглядит глупо. Да еще и претенциозно. Но вырвавшись хриплыми воплями из глотки Фишера, сии строки производят до жути сильное впечатление. Не могу не поделиться своими ассоциациями по поводу всего полотна в целом: на протяжении означенных семидесяти с гаком минут я все время представлял себе лежащего в постели умирающего в одиночестве старца. Поражает не образ (подумаешь, эка невидаль), а сам факт его возникновения, да еще и столь отчетливого, вплоть до морщин на изможденном лице. Порядок композиций прекрасно подходит сюда. И становится понятным, почему бонус-трек запихали в середину, а не в конец. У заключительной части триптиха не зря ведь в названии стоит безобразно опошленное всякими придурками, но тем не менее все еще несущее смысловую нагрузку слово Requiem. Да, дорогие мои, под эту песню вы и умрете, аминь.
Из уважения к группе не сказал ни слова про техническую составляющую, продакшн и все такое прочее. Кому это вообще интересно может быть? Лучше подумайте о том, как группа может сделать абсолютно разными песни, которые на самом деле таковыми не являются.

"Incantation Against You" is an a-cappella song (no instruments), it was
recorded by longtime female studio vocalist Simone Vollenweider, backed only by
a male choir. The song was inspired by Mesopotamian ritual writings of
banishment and the “Maklu” text in the Necronomicon; it was written by Martin
Eric Ain and Simone Vollenweider.
