Nightsky Bequest е една от малкото български метъл банди, които показаха, че могат да творят истинска музика и то без помощта на никой друг, освен на себе си. Това е една изключително красива и изящна готик/дуум банда, която е създадена през 1994 година и може да се похвали с два студийни албума, които в различни периоди от време са се радвали на сериозна популярност сред феновете на гореспоменатия жанр. Съвсем спокойно можем да заявим, че Nightsky Bequest е една от най-успешните родни формации, тъй като музикантите са били включвани на страниците на водещи метъл издания, като Metal Hammer, Rock Hard, Close Up и т.н. През 1999 година бандата издава своя втори поред студиен диск "Of Sea, Wind and Farewell" чрез мексиканския лейбъл X-Rated Records. За първи път името WARTIME се появява в началото на 1996г. Тогава групата е в състав : Стъмпи - вокали, бас, китари; Спиро - китари; Геко - барабани. Момчетата записват демото "Perfect World", съдържащо пет песни в стил power-thrash. Въпреки всичко, в средата на 1998г. групата се разпада заради разногласия и влизане в казарма на двама от членовете /без Стъмпи/. В началото на 1999г. обаче, Стъмпи намира нов барабанист - Цуро, и в последствие те подновяват съществуването на WARTIME. Започват усилени репетиции вече и с втори китарист - Тони / Набора /. През Май `99 новият облик на групата е завършен с присъединяването и на нов басист - в лицето на Стефан. WARTIME променят леко и стила си - в "regressive" както те го наричат. Според тях той е странен микс между progressive, death, thrash и power, с интелигентен подход. Следват няколко месеца репетиции / и почивка / , както и няколко успешни концертни изяви. Групата се концентрира в написването на нов материал и влиза в "Студио Х" през Май 2000 г. Резултатът е демо-cd "ENTRAPMENT" с което в момента групата търси издател за евентуален албум!

The history of the band begins in the summer of 1994, when Stanislav /a.k.a. Stumpy/ - guitars and vocals, Nikolai /a.k.a. Spyro/ - guitars and Angel /a.k.a. Geko/ - drums form a band and begin rehearsing. The style they play is thrash metal. On October 31st, 1995 the first song of the band was recorded Perfect World. The recordings took place in studio City in Sofia, as the bass is played by Stumpy. At the end of 1995, Georgi /a.k.a. the Evil/ joined the band as permanent bass player and on January 15th, 1996 the band recorded the song On The Edge Of Time, once again in the City studio in Sofia. At the end of 1996, the Evil leaves the band Stumpy becomes the new bass player. At this stage, after changing a lot of names, Wartime actually becomes the permanent name of the band. Two new songs are then recorded in Cassandra Studio in the city of Levski on March 13th and 14th, 1997 - Neverending and Divide Et Impera. At this period, the band plays on many concerts and continues with the intense rehearsing, as on December 29th, 1997, Wartime records the song Addicion again in Cassandra Studio. However, at the beginning of 1998 the band breaks down. But Stumpy wouldn't give up and decides to continue the band. After a long search he discovers a talented drummer Tzvetomir /Tzuro/. At that time Tzuro already had some experience on the stage being a member of several other bands. The two musicians got on well and began rehearsals. The final step towards shaping up Wartime came with the recruitment of the Greek student Yannis as a bassist. Inspiration was not lacking and soon the trio began performing in Sofia and touring the country (in this number we should mention well-known in Bulgaria festivals likeSvoge Open Air, Ljulin Stock, KirkOff Rock etc.). The band took part in a couple of concerts under the name of Zero Tolerance, but after the leave of Yannis in 1999 resumed its original name. At that point the membership of Wartime had grown to four with a new contribution to the rhythm section Tony /Nabora/ as a second guitarist. Yannis is replaced on the bass by Stefan /aka Techo/. The new crew gives a formal expression of their ideas in 2000 by the release of the Entrapment demo recorded in Studio X, Sofia. After these several years of adjustment, the band has already established quite diverse style of its own, which might be described as thrash-power-death with progressive elements. In 2001 unfortunately, conceptual differences with Tony are the reason for him to leave the band. He is temporarily replaced by Andrei currently a member of Hyperborea, until the break-up of Wartime in the middle of 2001. However, another reunion takes place in the fall of 2004 with the pioneers Stumpy and Stefan, as well as the new drummer Velizar /ex-Vile, ex-Regress/. Later, in the beginning of 2005 Ljubo /aka Chewbacca/ also playing in Virus, joins as a second guitarist. The first two concerts after the reunion take place on May 22nd and 23rd, 2005 in the clubs 3 Ushi and O'Shipka in Sofia. On December 10th, 2005 several months after the opening gigs, the band performs at the Death -Trash Invasion, organized in commemoration of Chuck Schuldiner. In 2006 Wartime continued their live appearances with a show in O’Shipka on March 21 with the thrash metal band Chainsoul and on May 28 with The Revenge Project. At the meantime on March 25, 2006, the band recorded a demo with two of their new songs - The Drifter and Preordained Game. On May 21, 2006, the band was invited as guest to the Fractura TV show on MM TV. The occasion for that was the forthcoming concert of Apocalyptica with Wartime as support act. On June 02, 2006, Wartime was supposed to act as support to the Finnish band Apocalyptica. Unfortunately, unforeseen delay in the organization of the show stopped the band from appearing on stage. In June 2006 the band continued their live performances, with two new shows - in Varna on June 10, in Area 51 together with Vile&Evil and in Plovdiv on June 11, Gepi club, together with Griah. Iordan Kanchev, from the band Hyperborea, was playing as a substitute guitarist - temporary replacing Liubo (Chewbacca). At the end of 2006, Wartime part ways with Liubo (Chewbacca) and Nikolai Kandev is presented as his replacement in January 2007. He is the youngest member of the band. Since the beginning of 2007, the band has continued to compose and work on new songs, and as per now, the material for their debut album is ready and is about to be recorded! On April 05, 2007, Wartime did a live show in 3 Ushi club, where the guys presented their new guitar player. The death metal band from Plovdiv - Burning Hate was their support act.

I'll be straight and short this time.

I reviewed UCK Grind's full-length album a year ago, it was a great debut with edgy Grindcore and very interesting music. The band got better, this new EP is really amazing, their music is three times tighter and stronger, their execution becomes incredibly clean and even the concept is more mature.

This review goes directly to the members of the band, dudes, what you seriously need to do is to grab the second and third track in this EP, re-record them with a better production, label the product as a Promo or Demo with an interesting layout including a tiny biography and a picture…wrap this thing up and send it inmediately to Relapse and Earache Records…if they are truly smart they'll have to sign UCK Grind ASAP or at least they'll send you to their sub-labels, then make sure to send me your "big label" debut with a thank you note.

To the people reading this, I can't recommend you to buy a short EP with 2 covers and 2 original songs, just wait for them to release another full-length, buy that one and you'll see how incredibly brutal and astonishing the Turkish grindcore can be.

"The Garden of the Misanthrope" is an extremely nice collection of symphonic black metal pieces issued by Little Norway Productions – a young record company based in Bulgaria’s “Little Norway”, namely a city called Blagoevgrad.
To be more precise, the compilation we’re paying attention to presents the audio-art of 11 quite promising newcomer bands from Bulgaria, plus a group from Slovakia named Desecrated Dreams, all of them performing mainly in the above mentioned genre-direction. Yes, the songs united here could be described as a beautiful diverse breed (not clones or copies!) of Emperor meets Arcturus vs. Limbonic Art plus Asgaroth, if you get what I mean... As really outstanding we could point out the innovative, avantgarde, brutally melodic creations by Inspell (with a composition off the duo’s debut "Fairy-Tales, Chapter 1" [2003]), the one-man project Legion (listen to the catchy apocalyptic industrial tunes and samples incorporated), Darkmoon Rising (featured with an epic piece that’s going to appear on their forthcoming full-length album "Durance of Hate"), the obscure Mpak (performing the only track with lyrics in Bulgarian – all the rest are sung in English) or Samhayne, just to mention a few. Actually, the only exceptions of the style described are the more straightforward, evilness-loaded outbursts by Mardral, Mrakobes and Frostbitten.
All in all – more than one hour full of overwhelming melodies, streaming aggression, original ideas and impressive musicianship! In addition come the high sound quality of the recordings and the professional booklet-layout... and I think that’s far more than enough and... Hell, it’s brilliant!

За втора поредна година се провежда фестивалът "Winter Storms" (наследил "Storms in Dereamssilence"), но този път култовата зала "Македония" бе заменена от на път да стане култов клуб "Сцената" (а дано де). И за втора поредна година имаше гръцка банда, докарана със съдействието на новоизгряващия лейбъл sinBsin...

Единствената пречка, залата да се пръсне по шевовете, беше цената на билета от 6 лева... не че това е много, но явно ситуацията в страната ни е такава, че се налага да броим стотинките... Но все пак народ имаше, куфеж и пого също. Е, не беше като в предишни години в "Македонията" (особено през 2000-та), но както казват руснаците: "Менше народу, больше кислороду", хе хе.

Започнаха Dystopia - проект, съставен от трима ex-Desolate членове (Владо и Мето - китари, Данаил - бас), Гани (McManus от Korozy) - вокал и Пешо (Mephisto от Demonism) - барабани. Атрактивен Black Metal, агресия, мрак (това са парчета от нереализирания албум на Desolate)... интересно начало, публиката е подгряла.

Последват ги Necromancer, станали вече ветерани на ъндърграунда, забиха познати парчета, и разбиха публиката с класическото си "Flight"… абе, нещо озвучаването не беше за тях и се губеше синтезаторът, който е много важен за тази група.

И ето, идва ред на специалните гости, гърците Via Serpentis... Ефектни грим, аксесоари, дрехи... Звучаха прилично на това озвучаване, явно звукът бе правен за тях. Изключително качествено сценично поведение, дори позиране (пред фотообектива)...

Млада група, но явно от друга планета, що се отнася до сценичното самочувствие. Забиха Black Metal от старата школа, който допадна на куфеещите фенове. След няколко авторски парчета започна кавър-версия на най-великото парче от най-великия Black Metal албум "Freezing Moon" от "De Misteris Dom Satanas" на MAYHEM. Е, публиката издивя.

Получи се добро шоу... феновете, които не дойдоха само могат да съжаляват. Метълите би трябвало да бъдат по-напористи в закупуването на билети за концерти на групи от други страни. Само така ще бъде възможно да идват още и още банди.

Останалите групи, които забиха бяха Korozy, The Revenge Project, Dimension Of Harm и Bleding Black. Отзивите са противоречиви, но ще ги оставя на феновете... А вас ви оставям с още няколко фото мига на Via Serpentis...

The project now known as EERIE was started back in 2003. The line up featured 2 members of the legendary band MORTAL REMAINS - Misho Mihaylov and Emo Manchevski. Their former band was one of the first Doom Metal bands in Bulgaria back in the early 90s. Keeping the flame burning, EERIE succeeded to break again the cliches in what is called “Bulgarian Metal”. And this was only the beginning.


After \"Master Race\", EERIE recorded their next track \"Low Price\" that had a sample from a speech by Martin Luther King. “Low Price” attracted the attention of Chavdar Tzachkov, the editor-in-chief of Brutallica Magazine. It was included in the CD compilation that came out with issue 10 of the magazine and it didn’t take long for their debut EP to appear. Their purpose was mostly to advertise their project, but they eventually sold hundreds of copies worldwide and attracted a legion of fans. The EP contained “Master Race” and 3 more tracks. The positive reviews and the media attention encouraged the band to record their firs full length album - the piece of plastic that is now spinning in your stereo.

It came out in January 2006, entitled “Hollow Stare” and was released through Brutallica Records and distributed worldwide by Golden Lake Productions.

And, to keep the news hot, the cult English extreme magazine Terrorizer included the 3-part conceptual composition “The Pool” in its March issue Free Candy 26 CD. Oh boy, its 25 000 copies spread worldwide! The album itself contains 10 tracks representing a unique mixture of Atmospheric Dark / Doom / Death Metal flavored with exotic folk elements and the typical for MORTAL REMAINS cold sound and non-standard rhythms. Be sure to read the lyrics, as they are closely connected with the music. This all forms a beautiful combination of melancholy-ridden atmospheric Doom / Death Metal combined with thoughtful lyrics.

Шведский сорокалетний басист Лейф Эдлинг прекрасно известен всему миру, как основатель и единственный бессменный участник по-настоящему легендарной думовой группы Candlemass, которая, как Вы знаете, после нескольких лет пребывания в состоянии клинической смерти, вернулась на сцену и выпустила прекрасный концертник. А рекорд-контора GMR Music Group, выпустившая этот самый концертник "Doomed For Live", немедленно преподнесла ещё один неплохой презент поклонникам Candlemass и фанатам лично Эдлинга.

Как многие из Вас наверняка знают, помимо "Мессы" в жизни Лейфа (и ещё нескольких участников думового монстра) было ещё две группы – Nemesis, которая отметилась выпуском единственной EP-ишки и стала фактически прообразом будущего Candlemass, a также проект Abstrakt Algebra, созданный Эдлингом в 1993-ем году и выпустивший одноимённый полнометражник, на котором был представлен материал, замешанный на техничном хэви и, отчасти, пауэре. К чему я вспомнил эти группы? А к тому, что на обозреваемый сборник "The Black Heart Of Candlemass" вошла куча материала, записанного под вывесками Nemesis, Candlemass и Abstrakt Algebra. На двух дисках представлены двадцать два трэка, среди которых Вы сможете обнаружить груду довольно редких демо-записей от всех трёх проектов. Причём записей, как увидевших свет, так и временно похороненных в архивах Лейфа.

Оба диска разбиты по временному принципу – на первом присутствуют пять вещей Nemesis и шесть трэков Candlemass, четыре из которых затем попали на "Epicus...", одна композиция ("Into The Unfathomed Tower") вошла на "Tales Of Creation", а "Warchild" впервые представлена на суд публики. Второй же диск включает в себя шесть песен, написанных под вывеской Abstrakt Algebra, четыре вещи, записанных поздним составом Candlemass и, в качестве бонуса, концертная запись "Lucifer" того самого Nemesis, записанная ажно в 1983 году! Интересно, что на сборник не попало не одной демо-записи, сделанной классическим составом Candlemass с Мессией Марколином в составе – половина материала была произведена на свет до 1985-го года, половина – после 1995-го.

Намеренно оставляю эту рецензию без оценки по той простой причине, что не знаю, по каким именно критериям можно оценивать этот сборник, ибо это ярковыраженный случай, когда на диск можно смело ставить ярлычок "for Candlemass (или Edling's) fans only". Вряд ли пластинка будет интересен широкой метал-общественности, но поклонники "Мессы" всенепременно должны ознакомиться с релизом.

Primitive Angel Gospoden

Primitive Angel Gospoden is founded in the summer of 1998 by the brothers Asen and Nord, as the idea they start with is their desire to realize their musical and creative visions, inspired by the black metal ideology. The line-up comes into its current appearance after 2000, when Angel and Katia join it.

One can feel the atmosphere of the gloomy and cold North listening to the band's music. Beautiful and aggressive at the same time, it's in harmony with the poetic lyrics, which colours strenghten its influence and creates a realistic picture, combining the ideological and musical aims of the band. Strong guitar passages, supported by deep and spectral keys together with the convulsing drums and vocals, drive the listener to witness a unique and unforgettable music.

The members of the band have a side project, called From The Waters Of Lake (doom/gothic metal), which they develop simultaneously with Primitive Angel Gospoden.

”Enemy of the World” is the latest publication of one of the most prominent Bulgarian metal labels Distributor of Pain. Innerhell is a black metal with elements of ambient project from Vratsa, with its sole member being Valsidalf Innerhell. The album consists of 11 songs with a total playing time of 42 minutes and 42 seconds and the first one, which is entitled ”My Mighty Mother Earth” is an ambient introduction. Afterward the album grows into a slow-paced and wistful black metal act with good riffs and lyrics in English, which enhance the woeful and sombre atmosphere. Endless pain, fear, everlasting anguish and forever lost memories… ”White Crow”, ”Lost Memories”, ”Valkyries Dance” and ”Greenhorn” are the songs which we find the most significant in the entire recording. As a whole, the conception and quality of the music are good. The publishers have tried their best with a high-quality CD-R and a seal on the cover.

Death/Gothic Metal группа Sleeping Gods сделала свои первые шаги в 1993 году. После первоначального успеха в андеграундных кругах, в феврале 1994 года, ребята выпустили демо. В октябре 1994 песня команды из Касселя появилась на сборнике ''Metal under Germany''. Таким образом, ''Blood Is Thicker Than Water'' была не только опубликована на той пластинке, но и стала частью дебютного альбома команды ''Above and Beyond'', выпущенном в 1996 году и успешно продающемся до сих пор. Сведением и продюсированием занимался Энди Классен (он работал с Richthofen, Holy Moses, Warpath). Компания AFM Records взяла на себя распространение этого альбома. В январе 1998 года песня Sleeping Gods ''Dead Calls'' вошла в рекламный сборник AFM Records, тираж которого составил 25 000 копий. На этом компакт-диске были также представлены уже очень хорошо известные на тот момент Edguy, Squealer и Voice. В июне 1999 года на Spiderhouse Studios в Лютте под руководством Харриса Джонса Sleeping Gods приступили к записи своего нового альбома ''New Sensation''. Мировой выпуск этой пластинки состоялся 17 января 2000 года. Его концепция очень нетипична для Металла, но, тем не менее, хорошо продумана, а обложка просто поражает вообржение. Во всём буклете нет ни одной общей фотографии группы, что сделано специально. Взамен, четверо членов группы заменены другими людьми из различных эпох. Кроме того, не существует ни одной печатной фотографии Sleeping Gods вообще. Таким способом команда пытается избежать привычных стереотипов, когда внимание публики привлекается фотографиями и изображениями групп и музыкантов-участников.
Альбом New Sensation - попытка Sleeping Gods породить новый тип сознания и восприятия, когда музыка выходит на первый план. Анонимность повышает интерес к текстам и их связи со звучанием пластинки. Потенциальный слушатель должен воспринимать альбом без какой бы то ни было предвзятости. Много в Германии хороших коллективов мелодичного толка и эти пятеро парней из Касселя не исключение. Вообще-то команда образовалась еще в 1993 году и это уже их третий релиз, но две первые работы я попросту не слышал. Зато могу сказать, что "New Sensation" полностью на 100% оправдывает свое название. Без всяких излишне завернутых композиционных наворотов они играют свежо и оригинально, искренне и убедительно, демонстрируя необычный подход к doom/death metal. Исключительно за счет гитар и ударных создается совершенно оригинальное звучание, прибавив к этому вокал Тима Зибрехта, по-видимому, поющего и гроулом и чистым голосом, получается просто потрясный результат. Клавиш нет, да они и вовсе здесь ни к чему! Композиция "Sweet Suffering" - абсолютный хит среди прочих, отнюдь не проходных вещей.

Everybody who has heard Misanthrope, the mediocre band from Holy records owner Philippe, has wondered at least once in his life, how it is possible that the leading man from this band has such a good musical taste. Holy Records is one of the best underground labels around, giving shelter and support to such great bands as Septic Flesh, Elend, On thorns I lay and this amazing Tristitia. L.B. Galvez, the brain behind this band, is one of the few technically amazing guitar players within doom-metal.

'One with darkness' is exactly what it pretends to be: a very dark, slow doom album. The excellent acoustic guitar intro 'Sorrow' immediately immerses the listener into the dark, mourning and depressive atmosphere of this album. Theatrical, low clean vocals alternated with frustrated screams, beautiful, melodic guitar work and dark, threatening keyboards set the sorrow drenched sound of this band.

The lyrics of the song 'One with darkness' illustrate perfectly what one can expect from Tristitia: "Pray to Thy whom has failed/mighty Contact with the Dark One". How more doom can one get?

Tristitia is a Swedish doom metal band formed in Halmstad, Sweden in 1992 by guitarist Luis B. Galvez. His devotion for Doom Metal and sorrowful melodies brought him to form the band with Death/Gothic style singer Thomas Karlsson and Harri Juvonen on bass. They recorded their first demo in April ’93 entitled ”Winds of Sacrifice”. In January ’94 they released their second demo ”Reminiscences of the Mourner”. The receiving of this demo was even better than ”Winds of Sacrifice” and gave Tristitia a record deal with the French label Holy Records. In march ’95 now with Bruno Nilsson behind the drums, Thomas on vocals and Luis playing all guitars, bass and keyboards, Tristitia released their first CD album ”One with Darkness”. Summer ’96 they recorded their second album ”Crucidiction” which was released December ’96. Tristitia’s third album ”The Last Grief” brought the band a new atmospheric Dark Doom Heavy Metal singing style with session singer Rickard Bengtsson from the Swedish band Last Tribe and with mixed doom riffs/classical guitar parts Tristitia found a new path beyond the labyrinth of Darkness. At the fall 2002 the band was ready for their 4th album and entered Darkside Studios in their hometown Halmstad to record their latest CD ”Garden of Darkness” with Death style vocalist Stefan Persson, which to be the darkest, most sorrowful and well produced of all Tristitia’s releases.

Solace is a Heavy rock band hailing from the Jersey Shore, USA.

Solace's last release, Further, lived in my CD player when I got it. I found that release to be full of vigor and power. 13 kicks off with the powerful "Loving Sickness/ Burning Fuel", a progressive rock track. The song starts out with a bar of 4/4, then a bar of 5/4, then a bar of 4/4, then a bar of 6/4. This interesting idea lasts for the first 1:41 of the track. Then the drummer hits a "1 2 3 4" on his hi-hat and the band launches into a ferocious straight 4/4 feel with intense drumming and an equally intense guitar riff. Then at the 3:24 point in the song, a third musical idea is introduced, this time featuring a harnonica solo. Then, to finish the song, the opening riff is repeated, only this time it is in straight 4/4 time. Track two, "Indolence", kicks off with a strong backbeat and double-time drums. The band does sound like they are in a time warp from the 70s. Vocalist Jason's voice sounds like Ozzy at his height with Black Sabbath and guitarist Tommy Southard has assembled fuzzy guitar riffs with the right amount of feedback. Pulling from an idea experimented with on Further, "Once Around the Sun (Deep through Time)" begins with a sample of two androids talking about their "perfection." The perfection of this 7:12 rocker is the way the instruments on this track sound like a well-oiled machine. Overall, Solace pays tribute to their 70s influences with a lot of poise and character. There are some interesting musical ideas.

Ultra-heavy riffs are opening the reign of SOLACE. The US-boys have dedicated themselves to Doom and vocally they are following the same direction. The riffs are pretty obviously of the CATHEDRAL/BLACK SABBATH-vein, but what makes SOLACE differ are the fits of rage that can be found in almost every song.

Here the vocals remind me a little of Kory Clarke (WARRIOR SOUL). SOLACE are rocking the place and write accessible songs beyond the easy listening-stuff. That means that you cannot listen to such intense and original songs in the background! Could even be something for tolerant MONSTER MAGNET-fanatics. I guess that you can very well smoke some grass to this music, but I do NOT want to encourage anybody.

I rather drink a beer or two and listen to these Doom-steam-rollers "unstoned".

Count Raven started life as Stormvarning in 1987 by vocalist Christian Linderson, guitarist Dan Fondelius, bassist Tommy Erikkson and drummer Christer Pettersson.[1] They changed their name to Count Raven for their 1990 debut album Storm Warning on Hellhound Records. The album received great reviews from the European metal press, but Linderson left soon after to join Saint Vitus for their C.O.D. album. The band continued on as a trio, with Fondelius taking over vocal duties for 1992's Destruction of the Void. From this album on there were many Black Sabbath comparisons due not only to musical similarities, but Fondelius's very Ozzy-like vocals.[2] They released 2 more albums with this lineup before calling it quits in 1999.

In 2004 Count Raven reunited and began touring again. They signed to Cyclone Empire Records, who re-released all four Count Raven albums. Each album contains at least one bonus track and extended liner notes. Messiah of Confusion also contains new cover art. In 2006 the band once again split and Fondelius has since hired two new members to continue on under the Count Raven banner.
