Short-lived duo "Ter Ziele" which only album "There is no useless pain" was sufficient, was a pure depressive metal band by Lore & Déhà, whom you can follow in their successful funeral doom endeavor, 'Slow'.

Yet.

It was without counting the prolific mind of the Belgian producer. In vital need to express more emotions, he decided to create "The Penitent", an even rawer depressive black metal side project, on which there is no hope, no light.

Going back to the basics, the primal influences of such genre like Svartr Strijd, older Hypothermia, Trist (Cz) and their monotonous voyages through raw depression, The Penitent is not only a tribute to this past, but also a blast in the face of 'modern dsbm'.

This first album "Before it all" counts guest vocals from Belarusian Nokt Aeon from bands Dymna Lotva & Absence of Life. Her performance is one of the rawest she has ever done in the past, from whispers, screams to opened cries.

The Penitent is not meant for everyone. No lyrics, no explanation will ever be available as per the band's choices.

Ideas were exchanged over the course of half a year, with the final lyrics being translated to and sung in Italian. The visual identity of the album was formed as a collaboration between key members of both bands, combining field photography, calligraphy, illustration, heraldic study and archive slides to draw a geographical ode and connection between all parties involved. The cultural and historical details of each locale provided ample electricity to channel the musical whims through, however manic or chaotic they may have seemed. It's not post-black. Post-hardcore with some influences.

Всё очень плохо. Альбом неравномерный, обрывочный, треки невнятные и разные по настроению, много отсылок на старые работы, но сделаны они не с привкусом "УХ ТЫ НОСТАЛЬХЕЯ", а с прогорклостью. Есть приятные боевички танцевальные типа Auslände, но в целом ни переслушивать нет желания, ни даже пытаться добраться до чего-нибудь в этом. В целом какие-то ощущения, что альбом писался из отрывков оставшихся за время существования группы. Это при том, что в целом я творчество их люблю. Но как по мне данный альбом записали ради того, чтобы было.

а это уже эмпиризм. На деле тут есть и даже больше, чем у некоторых именитых похоронщиков периодически бывает. Мелодия имеется, есть и атмосфера (вообще смешно это читать после заявления, что как так можно 10 секунд одну ноту держать, когда некоторые представители классической немецкой электроники (Клаус Шульц) делали построении вообще на изменении тона одной ноты или двух, и меж тем считаются классиками повлиявшими на становление жанра, молчу уже про дарк-эмбиент типа Sabled Sun с его космическими темами или дроун хотя бы у Tangerine Dream на альбоме Zeit), оригинальность построений в похоронке - это конечно ОЧЕНЬ СИЛЬНО. Хотя если вспомнить Esoteric, то они может и что-нибудь и могут дать по такому принципу. Что вообще понимать под интересными построениями? Авангардизм или прогрессию? Вещи не совсем совместимые с подобными жанрами, так как они и являются противопоставлением стандартам. Ну и про оригинальное звучание - ложь и профанация. Опять же как любитель музыки подобного жанра отличаю исполнителей и у The Howling Void с дебюта прослежено собственное звучание, которое я не спутаю ни с 1000 funerals, ни с Comatose Vigil, Yhdarl, Ea, Mournful Congregation, Esoteric, Pantheist, Stone Wings, Slow Death и прочими представителями жанра. Для похоронки данный релиз откровенно говоря чуть выше среднего, но в мой личный топ-10 этого года входит точно на данный момент. Причём это именно похоронка, а не коммерческий дэт-дум или пост-метал.

MBV играли песню более 20 минут на одном аккорде; дроун, эмбиент, ноувейв и прочее музло построено по принципу нарушения сложившихся традиций в построении композиций, конкретная музыка может вообще не содержать инструментов и от этого музыкой не перестанет быть. Вообще странно видеть на митоларее человека, который ждёт от похоронки скоростных запилов Мальмстина.
