Я не любил нобый сингл. Для меня, песни на "Prevail" были очень лучше. Однако спасибо.

Jun 30 2009, 12:23:08 Top 10 Melodic Death Metal
First, a list. Before arguing, read the explanations:
1. Arch of Hell *
2. Zonaria
3. Norther
4. Arch Enemy
5. Eternal Tears of Sorrow *
6. Wintersun *
7. Children of Bodom
8. Dark Tranquillity
9. Amon Amarth
10. In Flames

Each of these bands has something special.
Zonaria is the future. All the band members are ~22 years old now. Most underrated melodeath band. I'm really happy I got to know them - and that's just because they supported Satyricon on their tour.
Norther is my personal favourite. They were the first band I saw live. Aside that, they do very good music. Now that Petri's gone, they lost a personality but got a better lead singer instead. Looking forward to new stuff.
Arch Enemy. Most people's first idea is "wow, that little blond girl does the growls?!" and so was mine, but later I ran into more bands like this, so it's not much of a factor anymore. Yet, I like Angela's voice much more than, for example, the previous singer's. Overall good, I'd say.
Children of Bodom, aside being one of the bands that finally brought me to metal, are the guitar heroes. It's all about what Alexi can do. And it's also very stereo. Too bad Blooddrunk sucked hard smile2.gif
Dark Tranquillity is a band whose songs I usually don't remember, but in the end I find myself listening them over and over again.
Amon Amarth is the real viking essence. I still remember how I lol'd when I first saw their videoclip and all the guys made synchronized windmills. When I saw them live, they called the god of thunder until he came and drenched everybody in rain smile1.gif
I don't like In Flames. I came to this band through their new, non-melodeath stuff. Only when I later listened to their old releases, I understood the tag next to their name. In general, I don't like this band, but without their influence, many others wouldn't exist in the way we know them. And they still pack few kickass songs.

Few other bands I'd like to mention that IMO don't fall into melodeath, but share similar elements:
Arch of Hell is another very underrated young band. They play a mix of sympho/melo death with beauty & the beast vocals, some people like the word "gothic" and... it's better to hear it. I can't really label them as melodeath because their music has a different dimension. I'd say, out of these bands, they're best, but probably not best melodeath. What's more interesting, they're a local band! Too bad the songwriter recently left the band, so we might not get another album like this. Good luck to the rest, though.
Eternal Tears of Sorrow. I don't think I need to say anything about EToS. They progressively moved from death/thrash beginnings to the sympho death they play now. This band is totally awesome. And probably closest to melodeath from those I list here.
Wintersun - musical geniuses create complex compositions. So complex that the follow-up album still isn't mixed after 4 years in the studio smile3.gif Jari describes Wintersun as "extreme majestic technical epic melodic metal", smartly avoiding the word "death", but I'm not gonna believe that because 25% songs the released so far have the word "death" in their name smile3.gif

Sorry for English. You understand that with my limited skills in Russian, such long post wouldn't be possible for me (at least not before Time is released smile3.gif).

May 31 2009, 16:23:28 Trail Of Tears - Bloodstained Endurance (2009)
I was a bit scared of the lineup changes (the main songwriters left), but looks like Ronny managed to create a strong new team. The album is totally fucking awesome. Cathrine got enough space on it.
One of the best releases of the year so far.

May 25 2009, 08:52:21 Eternal Tears Of Sorrow - Children Of The Dark Waters (2009)
I've been wondering what makes this album so different. I think I found it now. Previous albums had a lot of catchy repetitive keyboard and/or guitar parts. Children of the Dark Waters sorta lacks this as EToS moved more towards symphonic metal. The only song where I noticed this immediately is Midnight Bird, one of my favourite ones. Either way, it's a cool album.

And sorry for writing in English again; my Russian is not very good and it would take a lot of time and few bad translations to express what I wanted to say.

Feb 26 2009, 13:02:18 Alerion - Turn Of Fate [demo] (2009)
Alerion is a promising band. They still need to work a lot on their sound though. I'm glad Maaike (the new singer) is not too bad. It's always scary when female fronted bands change singers smile4.gif
