SUNLIGHT REALITY was formed in June 2011 in Nizhny Novgorod (Russia) by Vladimir Cooper (guitars), Alexey Bochkarev (drums), Stas Verichev
(vocals) and Stanislav Stoupin (bass) with an ambitious intention to redefine metal scene in Nizhny Novgorod and hopefully beyond.
Despite such a seemingly recent event the band members have had a long history of prior collaboration.
Cooper, Verichev and Stoupin have crossed their paths as band members of CROWNTHORN (1998-2003) while Bochkarev and Cooper were involved in a project FALL FROM REALITY, which earlier released an album titled WITHDRAWAL (2009, Chaotic Noiz/Soyuz music) highly acclaimed by Russian fans of melodic death metal. Vladimir Cooper has always been a major driving force behind these projects as the main composer of the material.
CROWNTHORN was a vast playground for Vladimir and others where many attempts had been made to mix various metal subgenres such as those originating from death/black/thrash and power styles. The next step, FALL FROM REALITY gained recognition as one of the best Russian melodic death metal bands by performing numerous shows across Russia while touring together with premier local and western well-established bands.
The current lineup of the band includes Vladimir (guitars) Alex (drums) as the founding members. Vladimir again took the leading role in composing the material. An old friend and collaborator (ex. Crownthorn, ex. IVO) Stas Verichev brought his extensive skills as a vocalist. Stanislav Stoupin (also a lead member of a project NOESIS (USA)) joined forces with the band as a bassist.
SUNLIGHT REALITY does not entirely belong to the “Third World” domain of Metal to a large extent unexplored by western audience. Instead, with two band members employed and residing outside of Russia (Verichev (The Netherlands) and Stoupin (USA)) it is a part of the “Global Metal” trend where boundaries between countries vanish. The band members frequently meet at their home town Nizhny Novgorod for practice and other recreational activities.
Recently, the band has recorded their debut album titled “Through the Rings of Darkness” in NAVAHOHUT studios (Moscow, Russia). The album was mixed and mastered by one of the Russian metal gurus Arkady Navaho. Keyboards on the album were composed and recorded by Artyom Nizhnikov who has now become a permanent band member. “Through The Rings Of Darkness” features 10 tracks of intense melodic death metal. Lyrics on the album was written by Vlad Tarasov. Vlad earlier also wrote/contributed lyrics for FALL FROM REALITY and CROWNTHORN.
