"Spiritual Healing" - ещё один шаг вперед в развитии группы и зарождающего тогда отдельного нового стиля - это был ещё ни прог-дэт, но уже и ни дремучий прямолинейный oldschool.
Чак в то время говаривал в интервью, что записав этот альбом, группа хотела изменить отношение людей к дэт-метлу, привлечь больше внимание к музыке, показав, что дэт-метал может быть не только тупым прямолинейным рубиловом с примитивными текстами про трупов и дьявола.
В отличии от двух предыдущих работ, в "Spiritual Healing" были внесены эпохальные нововведения: во-первых однообразный гитарный чес, разбавили, внесения разнообразие в ритмическую структуру композиций, и приправив это обильными лидер-гитарными пассажами. во-вторых, заметно улучшилась сама техника исполнения, над коей Шульдинер и ассистирующий ему Джеймсом Мерфи, основательно поработали - иначе бы осилить задуманное просто не получилось бы. в-третьих, Death наконец-то смогли похвастаться хоть и пластмассовым, но отлично отработанным звуком, дающим в полной мере уловить всю красоту высокой техники и богатой лирической состовляющей.

Ты наверное не "Spiritual Healing" слушал. Здесь звук с ярко выраженным "металлическим" привкусом: звонкая металлическая перкуссия барабанов и скребущее, словно по ржавому железу, звучание гитар. Полная противоположность "пластмассовому" звуку, который в моде сейчас. По крайней мере на первом CD/LP издании 1990 года звук именно такой. На ремастерах 1999 и 2008 звук немного подсушили, но до "пластмассы" там все равно далеко. Собственно, у Death все альбомы звучат не пластмассово, кроме прошлогодней пересведенной версии "Individual..." на которой изуродовали звук гитар и ударных.

Ну естественно. Ты бы ещё вспомнил времена, когда динозавры бегали!
Тогда в эпоху развития направления death metal, когда всё, если можно так сказать, только начиналось и подавляющее большинство дэт-альбомов, с трудом поддавались восприятию из-за перегруженного/песочащего/жужжащего(нужное подчеркнуть) звука, Мерфи с Шульдинером на SH, накрутили тот звонкий с сильной просадкой средних и обилием высоких частот скребущий рёв гитар, ставший в последствии основой "пластмассы".
