ЗАШИБАТЫЙ АЛЬБОМ. Донельзя мрачный, в чем то даже обреченный по настроению трэш с отличными мелодиями, проходами и переходами. А самое главное - у группы есть свое лицо, не спутать их ни с кем. А этот вокал (IMG:style_emoticons/default/pray.gif) местами так вообще Мессия Марколин из Кэнделов мерещился (IMG:style_emoticons/default/25.gif)

Альбом зашибатый, действительно. Группу этак год назад открыл для себя, как я раньше пропустил их. Только тут чистокровный спид/павер, неоклассики много, но не слащаво, как у всяких рапсоди, ну и с некоторой долей трэша. А вокал - Хэлфорд на стероидах, который фальцетить научился. Как-то так.

Альбом практически шедеврален по крайней мере в рамках своего направления, а на штатовской сцене пауэра так вообще является одним из самых знаменательных релизов. В 89 году он стал, пожалуй, квинтессенцией мрачности в американском классическом метале, не пересекающем границу экстрима, воплощая тёмную, брутальную сторону пауэра в противовес набиравшим популярность немецким Helloween. Брутальность материала обеспечивается за счёт вкраплений смежного поджанра треша, капитально не меняющих свойственного классическому металу линейного драйва, но достаточных для того, чтобы придать риффам необходимую остроту и чеканность, которых зачастую пауэру не хватает.
Баланс по части взаимодействия сумрачной, давящей атмосферы и развитой формальной оболочки здесь если и не идеален, то наверняка близок к тому. Гитарная работа необычайно сложна, продумана и не только сможет посоревноваться с творчеством выступающих сольно виртуозов вроде МакАльпина, Мальмстина и прочих по технической сложности, но и сама по себе поражает воображение своей выдумкой, выражающейся в доступных внимательному слушателю разнообразных тонких штрихах и мелких деталях. Этим она усиливает ощущение, сходное с получаемым от некоей жуткой истории, или даже скорее фильма ужасов о вампирах, призраках и маньяках, прячущихся в тёмных переулках (весьма уместные вставки диалогов из кино в началах песен этому активно способствуют). Так же действует и высокий замогильный голос Джеймса Риверы, способный поначалу оттолкнуть недостатком красок и фактурности в вокальной подаче, но чья здоровая монотонность в данном случае безотказно вписывается в ткань альбома - холодного и жесткого, мрачного и безжалостного пауэр-метал титана, не нуждающегося ни в трешевой нахрапистости Чака Билли, ни в жеманной театральности Джеффа Тейта.
