His legacy has been paramount and it influenced several contemporary and subsequent intellectuals. His name is related to the development of the concept of "environment" ("Umwelt") within the subject of biology, in which every animal lives confined in its "world-environment", a world distinct yet connected to other world-environments. Such concept has been re-elaborated further by other intellectuals and it is one of the foundations of anthropological philosophy.
