The band is a new project from the musicians behind cult acts like Drudkh, Old Silver Key, Blood of Kingu, Dark Ages and more, but Rattenfänger is a different beast entirely.

Earlier this autumn, Dark Essence Records, announced proudly the signing of Ukrainian band Rattenfänger! Now, the debut album “Epistolae Obscurorum Virorum” is finally out.

The debut album, entitled “Epistolae Obscurorum Virorum”, is a masterpiece of old-school death metal. Rattenfänger’s sound is pitch black and bone crushingly brutal. It is Death Metal in its original form – and it is devastating. Inevitably there will be nuances from the members other projects, and comparisons can also be made with bands such as Celtic Frost, early Darkthrone, Asphyx, Winter, Bolt Thrower and Nihilist amongst others, but Rattenfänger, is the epitome of old-school death metal and the album has its own, very distinctive, sound.

The name Rattenfänger is taken from the legend of the Pied Piper of Hamelin (Rattenfänger von Hameln), who was hired by the townsfolk of Hameln, Germany, to rid the town of the rats that had overrun it. Unfortunately he is deceived and cheated of his payment, and he exacts a dreadful revenge on the citizens. The lyrics are in Latin, written in style of medieval poets, thinkers and troubadours/minstrels.

Альбом, прямо скажем, так себе. Но слушая в превью песенку Grimorium Verum в середине я словил себя на мысли, что заиграло что-то до боли знакомое. Ну конечно же! Самый что ни на есть пантеровский рифф из Sandblasted Skin. При чем уверен, что никакого умышленного воровства не было, просто всплыло из глубин памяти и прикинулось собственным сочинением.
Что, собственно, и не удивительно : вспомнилось сразу, как Саенко рубил хардкор и тщательно изображал Анселмо на сцене.
Вот лучше бы чем-то подобным и пошалили, чем очередным ретро-дэзом.

А мне норм. Сочный, фуззный саунд и приятные гармоничные риффы, отличный вокс. Наконец-то дэт, от котого, не хочется блеватьсо, в отличии от новомодных звуковых тенденций. При этом, проект случайно попался в уши, мне понравилось, прослушал как минимум трэка три, после чего уже потопал искать инфу, где приятно был удивлен

А ненавистников хэйтфоредрудовой конторы всегда было множество. Ровно как и любителей-почитателей. Я принадлежу второму типу, и кому-то что-то доказывать не имеет смысла, ровно столько же, сколько не имеет смысла участвовать в вегано[мат->бан]х.

То, что Саенко человек разносторонний в музыкальных пристрастиях стало понятно давно, но вот такого я если честно не ожидал от него и их.
Такой Дет мне по нраву, люблю старые вещи из этого стиля и видимо Саенко тоже. Также вокал похож на тот, что был в Ненавистном Лесу

Отменнейший старошкольный медленно-ползучий дэт мрачно-одержимой закваски. Непонятно. чё все ворчат. Стафф более дет, чем многие гранды. Очень рад, что не прошёл мимо. Советую всем настоящим любителям настоящего дэт метала с большой буквы, а не пластиковых попсарей современности.
