Arnarson - Guitars Additional notes The band stands on anti-racist positions and declared music without hate and violence. The band Týr was formed in January 1998 by Faroe Islanders living in Copenhagen (at the time). Týr had their Faroese breakthrough in April 2001 when they participated in the bi-annual 'Prix Føroyar' contest. The live version of the song "Ormurin Langi" as performed at the contest was featured on the "Prix Føroyar 2001" compilation CD. The song became the greatest Faroese hit ever in the Faroes. Early 2002, the same song hit bigtime in Iceland and paved the way for Týr's popularity there. Týr is the Germanic God of courage, strength, justice, victory, defense, and battle. He sacrifices his hand to Fenris in order to bind him. Týr will perish at Ragnarok when he fights the wolf-hound, Garm, who in turn perishes at Týr's hand. The god Týr was originally known as Tiwaz. The T-rune, which is named after him, symbolizes fighting for truth and one's beliefs, as well as standing for dedication and valour in combat. Terji Skibenæs filled in as a guitarist for Eluveitie on the US leg of the Paganfest 2008 tour while Eluveitie's drummer Merlin Sutter temporarily replaced Kári Streymoy (who was struggling with a back-injury at the time) on the US leg of Paganfest. Amon Djurhuus (Heljareyga), who's a student of Kári, played with Týr on the EU leg of Paganfest.
