Первый зрелый альбом команды. Весьма смелое заявление, учитывая тот факт, что перед ним были три альбома разной степени успешности, – вполне можно было и за это время успеть созреть, не так ли? Так. Но весь сок в том, что к Прожектору (практически) невозможно придраться по мелочам, – он может либо нравиться в целом, либо не нравиться вообще. Skydancer отбросим сразу, о дебютах разговор отдельный, The Gallery, при всей моей любви к нему, зачастую страдал максимализмом, – где-то песня неприлично растянута, где-то мелодических решений на квадратный миллиметр слишком уж много, и так далее. Самолюбованием он не обделён, и в некоторых моментах это могло раздражать. Ну а The Mind’s I, это очевидный переходный период - от азарта к логике, от раскрепощённости к рационализму, со всеми вытекающими отсюда последствиями.

Скованность, холод едва освещённых улиц, урбанистическая клаустрофобия… Результаты глобализации, воплощённые в музыке, где природа потеснена мегаполисом, где тебя окружают сплошные небоскрёбы, где солнце сокрыто пеленой серых облаков, а тусклый свет источают лишь фонари… Описание скорее подойдёт какому-нибудь индустриальному или эмбиентному проекту, нежели металлическому, но атмосфера альбома рисует именно подобную картину. Мелодик ДЭТ-метал – просто насмехательский тэг для данного лонгплея, что подтверждает сама музыка. Dark Tranquillity просто издеваются над дэтовой основой, насыщая её сдержанной мелодикой, зачастую пронизанной доселе невиданным оптимизмом и восторженностью риффов. А чистый вокал Станне, даже будучи очевидно сырым (поёт так, словно нос соплями набит) и не обладающим ярким эмоциональным окрасом, весьма удачно подчёркивает чувственные гитарные партии. Это и есть отличительная черта альбома – слияние противоположностей в гармонию. Внешне мрачный, нелюдимый, замкнутый, внутри – добрый, тёплый, чувственный. Словно человек, которого не понять, не раскусить при первой встрече, но затем становящийся твоей путеводной звездой, основой твоей жизни.

Ассоциации, ассоциации… а что по сути? Да по сути всё давно уже сказано, в том числе и мной. Группа по-настоящему выросла и записала отнюдь не сложный (как принято считать), но серьёзный альбом. Пусть он слегка неровный, пусть атмосфера не столь насыщена, как должно быть, но во время путешествия по нотам альбома на всё это перестаёшь обращать внимание. “Freecard”, насыщенная романтической и в чём-то даже неоклассической атмосферой клавиш, выглядит едва ли не белой вороной, - по ней не следует судить о всём релизе, но следом за ней – сама сущность, сердце диска – “ThereIn”, преисполненная той самой восторженностью, надеждой… Через апатичную “Auctioned”, тёплую “Nether Novas” и жёсткую “The Sun Fired Blanks” к венцу творения – “On Your Time”, берущую просто-таки драматичными переходами… Руки чешутся взять и по косточкам разобрать все композиции, но в этом нет ни смысла (передать всю палитру ощущений словами всё равно не удастся), ни возможности (не жалую я подобные разборы, поэтому руки хоть и чешутся, но не поднимутся сделать это).

Что может быть лучшим доказательством наличия таланта группы? Умение создавать полотна, воспевающие не только естественную, природную сторону жизни, её яркие, порой ядовитые краски, но также творить альбомы, с концепцией иной стороны – городской меланхолии, серости и монотонности, при этом, абсолютно не теряя в весе. При выходе Projector не все приняли эту сторону, что говорит о неготовности некоторых поклонников к таким изменениям. Но время расставило всё по своим местам, и теперь “Прожектор” многими считается одной из сильнейших работ коллектива.

P.S. Несмотря на то, что я люблю данный альбом, на нём есть песня, доводящая меня буквально до белого каления – “UnDo Control”. Дело далеко не в очередной приглашённой барышне (Йоханне Андерссон), а в самой композиции, – со стороны она мне кажется зацикленным, горячечным бредом, который неестественно выступает из альбома, словно какая-то культя.

Стопятьсотый раз повторюсь - лучший их альбом. Самое забавное, что не столько за счёт материала, который на фоне той же Фикции выглядит, за редким исключением, бледно-меланхоличной поганкой, сколь за настроение и эмоциональность. Тот же The Gallery пусть и эмоциональнее будет, но преисполнен слишком "крайними" оттенками оной: взрывной, экспрессивный, в чём-то даже нервный. Неудивительно, что я только две песни такого запала и способен выдержать. Projector тихий, кроткий, почти шепчущий. Бархатно-тёмный. Ванильный. Остановите меня Также не без бурных эмоций, но даже "ThereIn" строго держит дозу нетипичных настроений в средних значениях.
Из технических характеристик (если выйти за рамки эмоционалки) альбом красит чистый вокал Станне. Именно тут его апогей, как певца. Потом он научился петь и стало не так интересно. В последней песне он все соки из себя выжал. На концерте попробует такое исполнить - отъедет сразу, мне кажется, даже в нынешних кондициях. Ну и бонусная "No One" намертво входит в число лучших композиций группы - редкий пример самой настоящей колыбельной от ДТ.

Как альбом Dark Tranquillity он мне не нравится. Потому как играли они немножко другое до этого, и вот сразу переключиться - ну его на фиг. А вот как просто абстрактный альбом экспериментального металла - неплох, да. Особенно песня Day to End, такой себе привет Депеш Мод. А, и ещё On Hour Time, но это, скорее, плач по безвременно ушедшему периоду МДМ. Гитарная партия там хорошая.
