I usually tend towards raw black metal but this band has captivated my attention and I like more recommendations along their lines of music.

The guy says that he used to listen to raw black and then he liked Turisas (IMG:style_emoticons/default/21.gif) Str8Hate I think you must check out the following list: Eluveitie Ensiferum Equilibrium Finntroll Finsterforst Lemuria Moonlyght Nebelhorn Northland Orkrist Profugus Mortis Runic Svartby Svartsot Tarabas Vaakevandring Wintersun Wolfchant Not all of these bands of course contain symphonic elements, not all of them are so energetic, but still some of them may be of some interest to you. Moreover, I can add more bands from folk/black style - these ones have less similarities with Turisas but still have melodies and atmosphere sometimes or maybe even epic elements: Fjoergyn Forefather Heorot Kromlek Nordvykk Odroerir Pagalguenna Parakletos Raventhrone Sorgsvart Thiasos Dionysos I cannot assure that you will like them all, but still (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile1.gif) |

You should definitely go for Thronar. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/20.gif) Their album "For Death and Glory" (2005) is a masterpiece of this genre. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile1.gif)

Str8Hate, Turisas is highly "distinctive" Folk Metal band. And you would hardly find anything else like them. Of all staff I've ever heard, the most similiar to Turisas' sound is the music of the international folkmetal-project FOLKEARTH. Second, you gonna like EMPEROR - great Norwegian Black-Metal band.
You should also try Einherjer, Falkenbach and Doomsword. |
