На волне интереса к дебюту Relapse решает издать миньон Festivals of Atonement (ранее выпущенный группой самостоятельно) и демку Ramses Bringer of War одним релизом. Что позволило слушателям лучше ознакомиться с истоками музыки коллектива.

Что касается первой части материала (EP 1995 года), то черепосокрушающие низы в саунде отсутствуют, да и напор не настолько безудержный. Т.е. это ещё не брутал, а скорее просто дэт. Но, что немаловажно, дэт уже вполне найловский: т.е. композиции тяготеют к эпичности и египетских фишек в музыке достаточно много. Что качественно отличает данный миньон от ещё более древней демки Worship the Animal, на которой просто Chief Spires чё-то хрипит под какие-то тяжелые аккорды. Песни, кстати, очень длинные (в отличие от дебютника): свыше 5 минут, а монументальный эпик Extinct и вовсе 9:35. В общем, данные композиции (которые более нигде и ни в каком виде не появлялись) представляют не только историческую ценность, но и сами по себе весьма недурственны.

А вот мотивы переиздания демки 1996 года мне не понятны: все три песни мы имеем возможность послушать на дебютнике в более полном виде (к примеру The Howling of the Jinn в демо-версии не содержит этот самый вой) и в намного лучшем звуке. По сути, эти три композиции - мусор.

Также непонятен вопрос с оценкой данному релизу. Сам материал Festivals of Atonement я оцениваю примерно на 9/12, при этом, учитывая мини-формат, я должен снизить ему оценку на два пункта - до 7/12. НО. Длительность данного миника всего на 40 с уступает длительности дебютного альбома (IMG:style_emoticons/default/1488.gif) Если же оценивать всю компиляцию в коплексе, то опять же ненужные три композиции в конце потянут оценку с 9 вниз. Ладно, пусть будет нечто среднее.

8/12. Мастхэв для поклонников. Остальным по желанию.
