Эта металлическая формация из швейцарского Цюриха была основана в середине 80-х. В первоначальный состав вошли гитаристы Томми Ти Барон (Томми Веттерли) и Оливер Амберг, басист Рон Ройс (Рон Бродер) и барабанщик Маркиз Марки (Маркус Эдельманн). Вокалиста у группы не было, и поэтому в записи первого демо, "Death cult", принял участие фронтмен "Celtic frost" Том Уорриор. Он же помог "Coroner" заключить контракт с германским лейблом "Noise records". Поиски фронтмена так и не увенчались успехом, и вокальные обязанности взял на себя Рон Ройс. Амберг вскоре ушел в "Celtic frost", а "Coroner" до конца своей деятельности так и оставались в виде трио.

С Харрисом Джонсом в роли продюсера в 1987 году был записан дебютный альбом, "R.I.P.". Несмотря на слабоватую работу Джонса сырой агрессивный трэш, звучавший на пластинке привлек внимание критиков, писавших только положительные отзывы. После кратковременных европейских гастролей команда вновь оказалась в студии, на этот раз под предводительством Гая Бидмида.

Альбом "Punishment for Decadence", обозначивший крен в сторону дэта, укрепил репутацию "Coroner" в металлических кругах. Однако отсутствие должного промоушена и отмена нескольких туров конечно же отразились на тиражах пластинки. Свой третий диск группа записывала в Западном Берлине, а микшировать пленки отвезла во Флориду, в известную своим сотрудничеством с многими дэт-коллективами студию "Morrisound". В результате "No more color" превзошел два предыдущих релиза. Будучи более брутальным, альбом также содержал джазовые интонации, к чему приложил руку Томми Барон. Наконец-то у "Coroner" состоялись полноценные гастроли, причем на разогреве у них играла культовая техасская команда "Watchtower".

Начало 90-х ознаменовалось для группы дальнейшим ростом мастерства и снижением коммерческого успеха. Альбом "Mental vortex" был сделан по той же схеме, что и его предшественник, т.е. запись происходила в Берлине, а микширование во Флориде.

Впервые "коронеровцы" поняли, что одной тяжестью и скоростью мало чего добьешься, и добавили в музыку элементы прогрессива. Критики вновь были в восторге, но лейбл в очередной раз проявил тупоумие и напрочь отказался от какого-либо промоушена пластинки. Однако музыканты продолжили бороться за выживание и выпустили экспериментальную пластинку "Grin". Здесь уже было полно синтезаторов (как обычных, так и гитарных), акустических гитар и сэмплов. Все это мало впечатлило поклонников группы, и даже пресса отнеслась к этому релизу прохладно. В конце концов Рон, Томми и Марки пришли к выводу, что пора распускать свой проект. Однако у них оставались обязательства перед "Noise records" на выпуск одного альбома.

Фирма предложила выпустить сборник лучших вещей, но "коронеровцы" поступили нетрадиционно, разбавив "greatest hits" несколькими новыми треками. Эта последняя пластинка вышла в 1995 году и имела довольно простое название – "Coroner". В 1996-м команда совершила прощальное турне и распалась. После роспуска группы Веттерли подался в "Kreator", Бродер вообще завязал с музыкой, а Эдельманн какое-то время работал сессионным ударником, а потом оказался в "Appolyon sun".

Группа для меня одна из лучших в трэше. Их техника на гране фантастики, ритмические изыски и соло сводят с ума.

No More Color и Mental Vortex, классные альбомы. А вещь с Punishment For Decadence- Masked Jackal - была у меня в виде видеоклиппа (оку...нно понравилась) на видеокассете, альбома тогда не было. И только год назад удалось приобрести диск. На мой взгяд 88,89,91 - великолепные образчики техничного треша, скатившиеся в последствии на нет.

Сегодня ознакомился со всеми альбомами данной замечательной формации. Некоторые вещи прогнал по несколько раз, ибо дико зацепили. Офигенный трэш, особенно зацепили Mental Vortex и Grin, ибо люблю нервозные диссонантные гитарки и мрачную атмосферность.

Крутейшая банда, что тут сказать. Больше всего мне по вкусу "No more Color", по-моему, это лучшее что есть в техно-треше.

И, кстати, даже вот боязно от этих слухов о новом альбоме, а вдруг испортят на сегодняшний день безупречную (ибо как выше сказано - все творчество на пятерку) репутацию (IMG:style_emoticons/default/fear.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/crazy.gif)

Не всё так просто. В 2006-м от реюньона активно открещивались. В 2010-м объвили о воссоединении исключительно ради ХеллФеста. Сейчас объявляют о турне по Европе и Америке. Угадайте с трех раз какой будет следующий шаг (IMG:style_emoticons/default/1488.gif)

Хотя... вспоминая реюньоны Меконг Дельты и Селтик Фрост, которые вышли просто ядерными ("Затаившийся страх" и "Однобожник" соответственно, да и альбомы 2010-го тоже чудо как хороши (IMG:style_emoticons/default/banana.gif) ) - может и стоит (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile1.gif)

Reunited Swiss thrash trio CORONER — made up of bassist Ron Royce, drummer Marquis Marky (a.k.a. Marky Edelmann) and guitarist Tommy T. Baron — played its first comeback concert during the Impetus festival last night (Saturday, April 23) at les Docks in Lausanne, Switzerland. Fan-filmed video footage of the performance can be viewed below.

Marky was interviewed on the April 15) edition of Tony Webster's "The Metal Command" radio show. The chat can now be streamed using the audio player below. A few excerpts from the interview follow.

On CORONER's current status:

Marky: "[We're] rehearsing, rehearsing, practicing and rehearsing. That's basically what we do. For me personally, I didn't play drums in 15 years. I think we started in September last year — we started to play the old songs — and by now it sounds quite good, but it was a lot of work — very painful, actually. [Laughs]"

On playing with his CORONER bandmates again after so many years:

Marky: "It was a total trip; it was really like a time warp. It was totally strange. Sometimes you could play the songs automatically; it was still somehow programmed. It was really funny; your arms go left and right, and you don't know why. 'Oh, wow, that's why. I have to hit this cymbal right now.' [Laughs] So that was really quite a trip. It makes me feel like being [brought[ back [in time] 15 years or more. And I missed playing drums, totally. That was also something I'm very happy about now — to just play drums."

On the possibility of recording a new studio album:

Marky: "We never really thought about that, because we were too busy to get fit for the shows. I don't know. I cannot say right now. There is no talk about this at all yet. Right now we concentrate totally on playing those live shows and whatever happens later, I have no idea yet. I really can't say. There was no time to think about it yet."

On whether there are any plans to reissue CORONER's back catalog:

Marky: "I was surprised, because I was actually trying to buy a CD here recently and [I was told] that all of them were out of stock so that you cannot buy them anymore. So, yeah, it would probably be a good idea. I mean, basically, you can download everything. But I was always someone [who] liked vinyl — to have something in my hand, as well as the CD. I still like it. It's still different than just a downloaded file on your computer. So yeah, maybe we're gonna think about that. Last year we started to work on some sort of a home video where we're gonna put all the video recordings we did in the past, also with interviews and things like that. So, probably next year we're gonna put out something like this — a little box with a DVD or something. I don't know yet."

CORONER will make an exclusive U.S. appearance at Maryland Deathfest IX, set to take place May 26-29 at Sonar in Baltimore.

Originally part of the road crew for fellow countrymen CELTIC FROST, CORONER went on to become one of the most progressive extreme metal acts of the Eighties.

The connection between the Zurich band and CELTIC FROST was so strong, in fact, that CELTIC FROST frontman Tom G. Warrior offered to handle vocals for the emerging band's demo. Warrior and CORONER entered Switzerland's Magnetix studio on October 10, 1985, and nine days later they walked out with the impressive four-song 1986 release, "Death Cult".

While subsequent bootlegged CDs included the bonus tracks of "Arrogance in Uniform" and "Hate, Fire, Blood", the original four-track demo consisted of the following tracks: "Spectators of Sin", "Spiral Dream", "Aerial Combat" and "The Invincible". (Only "Spiral Dream" would make it onto CORONER's 1987 debut LP, "R.I.P.")

According to The BNR Metal Pages, CORONER "progressed from the raw speed of 'R.I.P.' to the more laidback style of 'Grin', releasing five albums (not counting the semi-compilation 'Coroner' album) that are all different and yet all are undeniably related, and undeniably CORONER. The band called it a day in 1994, actually before the release of 'Coroner', with Marky Edelmann joining APOLLYON SUN and Tommy T. Baron going to KREATOR, though neither is still with those bands."

Наткнулся у себя в обширной фонотеке на Pure Sweet Hell 2003 The Voyeurs of Utter Destruction as Beauty - проект Van Williams - Vocals/Drums - барабанщика Nevermore.
(поискал релиз здесь на форуме, не нашёл что-то).
Материал неоднороден, некоторые моменты показались подобными Coroner-овсому Grin-у (есть какие-то такие моменты "волнообразности" звучания; а может, первая вещь на какие Dimmu Borgir тянет; оцените тогда с 02 Scared About Everything );
а другие - такой прогрессив-психодел вакханалией, что я бы их не включал бы с первыми (всё никак не послушаю индастриал-проекты Роба Хэлфорда, может эти, вторые, на него похожи (IMG:style_emoticons/default/hmm.gif) ).
