Constantinopolis/Sabhankra
Sabhankra was formed in 2001 as Savaş Sungur's personal project under the name "Constantinopolis". The project soon became widely known for its epic musical work, and its combination of folk, power and death metal styles. The project released its first demo "The Sudden Death" in 2002, followed by a 70-minutes self titled album "For The Empire" in 2003 and acquired underground vogue.

The project became a band and appeared onstage starting in 2004. Following its second stage performance, the band took the name of "Sabhankra" and performed on various venues throughout Turkey. Sabhankra released "Powercraft" in 2006, blending folk melodies of different cultures, and won local and international recognition. In 2006, the band released a concert DVD of its album premier; the concert consisted of the bands Sabhankra, Necrophagist, Orphaned Land and Samael. Between 2006-2008, the band was occupied with performances and album recordings. By the end of 2008, Sabhankra released a promo album "To Die For A Lie", produced by Barbaros Ali Kaynak, which also indicated to the upcoming album "Revenge". "Revenge" has been recorded, mixed and mastered by Barbaros Ali Kaynak and was ready to be released. But when it's release cancelled Sabhankra released a new ep, "Our Kingdom Shall Rise" by the end of 2009. The band still continues performing epic music at its best...

Второе потрясение за неделю! (Первое было - немцы Akrea.) Давно уже я не пробовал слушать такой штуки, как ethno-death - стиль, не столь широко распространённый. (Качественного же этно-дэта - не слышал ещё дольше.) Ну вот, турецкое трио Constantinopolis и встретилось на моём пути! Удивляться приходится на каждом шагу - турки играют модель этно-дэта, совершенно непохожую ни на Forgotten Silence, ни на Betray My Secrets, ни на Hollenton (хотя не все из перечисленных играют именно "дэт"). Constantinopolis отличает здоровая "спортивная" наглость и мелодичность, даже бОльшая в сравнении с вышеназванными коллективами. А весьма интересный "риффинг" довольно часто вызывает желание как следует потрясти хаером ему в такт. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile1.gif) Есть просто-таки крышесрывающие фрагменты - например, в For The Empire, Old World и At The Gates Of The Vienna - когда эффектные риффующие гитары, словно спеша наиграться всласть перед очередными "восточными" кусками, резвятся и грохочут своим своеобразным ревером. К вышеупомянутым композициям в число лучших обязательно нужно добавить The Betrayal и The Conquest. И вот какая мысль: для турков вся эта "восточность" не является такой уж экзотикой - у них это вроде своей "народной" музыки. В "этно" они себя чувствуют, как рыба в воде. Хотя парней всего трое, но в записи принимает участие явно большее количество народа - в отдельных местах то ангелоподобная девица голосит, то мужской хор, то ещё что-нибудь этакое. В любом случае, это всё слушается интересно - любителям этно и Востока просто-таки подарок. Как недостаток могу отметить некоторую завышенность продолжительности альбома. 17 номеров - это уже чересчур, смело можно было бы 3-4 вещи убрать. Те же помпезные инструменталы (The Dawn, BeforeThe Legend), например. Альбом ещё больше выиграл бы в силе. Но и так чертовски хорош - слушаю, и не могу оторваться!
