Sophie Lancaster died on the 24th of August 2007 after being attacked in Bacup , Lancashire . The reason for the vicious and unprovoked attack upon Sophie and her partner was purely motivated by their appearance .
The Foundation was set up to raise awareness of the prejudice and violence faced by people from alternative subcultures . Since Sophie’s death the charity has worked hard to bring about change, through workshops in schools and a campaign for an amendment to the Hate Crime laws.
The Sophie Lancaster Foundation was established following her murder in 2007 . It became a registered charity in 2009 .
