Description:
This trio hails from Norway and plays fairly traditional Black Metal with some progressive components. While Kristin, their female bassist, also writes the lyrics, they decided not to employ female growls for this project, sticking with a male vocalist only. As for the reasoning behind this, Berge said:
"We just thought it didn't really fit what we had planned. This was supposed to be rather conventional Black Metal which is traditionally dominated by male vocalists. I am not strongly opposed to female vocals or anything like that, it's just that I'd like to experiment more overall then - not just with the vocals."
As conventional as Berge might claim Dyssonate are, they do stand out in at least two points. First, as already mentioned, their bassist is female and second, occasionally the guitars reach down to tonal depths one might be be more accustomed to from the Death Metal genre since they use a rather peculiar tuning. However, they are by no means a Blackened Death Metal band.
The project went on hold after the release of their debut because the members were uncertain if they wanted to continue it right away:
"We might release more material under this name in future but it would be a lie to say that we are active right now, especially since we are a studio-only band and we aren't planning on writing more music together any time soon. We had a lot of fun with this project but it wasn't really an eye-opening experience for any of us. It just felt good to get our hands dirty again. Prior to Dyssonate, Kristin and I hadn't worked on any projects in over a year.", Berge explained.
