One of the first heavy metal bands in the former German Democratic Republic. From 1987 to 1989, the band was known as Caiman, after Macbeth had been banned by the East German authorities following a police- and Stasi-monitored gig in the overcrowded Stadtgarten in Erfurt, Thuringia.

Macbeth/Caiman finally split-up for the first time in 1989 after the suicide of their singer Wittenburg. A first comeback in 1993 ended with the death of their drummer. The band re-united for the second time in 2002.

Not to be confused with the power metal band Macbeth from Ennepetal or Macbeth from Ingolstadt.
