Ameliorate (verb): To make a bad or unpleasant situation better.
This is the first Senescere music I've managed to put out since 2020. Covid happened, lots of personal stuff happened, and for a long time it was very difficult to find the motivation or opportunity to work on anything productive. Still, this project remains a very essential part of my creativity and mental health.
The Ameliorate EP consists primarily of two new original songs: the opening title track and Moss And Twigs. They felt like they belonged together on a dedicated release, so I took a break on some other material that I was working on to focus on these. Both are about balancing your perspective of your own struggles with the fragility, impermanence and harsh beauty found in nature.
Interbeing is a new acoustic piece very much in-line with what I was doing in the early days of Senescere, and Lay The Ghost To Rest is a cover of an Insomnium song that I felt would go really well with the theme of the EP (and one that I consider very underrated in their discography).
This release was a weight off my shoulders. In that respect, the title has some literal significance for me. Thank you to anyone who is listening.
