"Monsterworks :: Malignment is a continuation of the story that began with Spacial Operations (2007) and Singularity (2009)....

The strikeship Magma Maiden, having disappeared with her pilot Nate during the Blastnet offensive (a major event in the Singularity album), crash lands in the Eritrean mountains of a near-future Earth.

Nate is mortally wounded and his only hope of survival is to be fused with the ship’s A.I.. The move is successful but permanently affects the young man’s perception of reality.

Now alone and with no means of returning to his friends and family, two hundred years before his own birth, Nate must find a way to get by in this strange world; while attempting to keep his origins, technology and capabilities hidden.

The traveller’s appearance coincides with rising tensions across the globe due to dwindling resources. Various governments and corporations are working on solutions, chief among them being research into asteroid mining, enabled by efficient propulsion systems, by a brilliant scientific collective lead by John Merrick. After initially falling in with Bola Duro, an Eritrean freedom fighter, Nate recognizes the man Merrick as the villain that may be responsible for the destruction of two civilisations in his own timeline. Through any means necessary, Nate becomes obsessed to stop the “mad scientist” and save the future.

Unfortunately, he has gotten it all wrong....."
