A Stuttgart based Hard Rock band, BLOODSTONE formed in 1993. Whilst singer Jochen Sakowsky and guitarist Holger Baumann are both German, drummer Andrew Green is South African, guitarist Daniel Stevenson is an Australian native of Melbourne, Victoria and bassist Vito D. Popovic a Croat. Jochen Sakowsky and Holger Baumann were previously with Heilbronn outfit AYERS ROCK and a few of BLOODSTONE's songs were lifted from their former outfit's catalogue of material. Incidentally, other ex-AYERS ROCK members formed the band LOST GAIN.
AYERS ROCK demos were notably produced by VICTORY guitarist Tommy Newton. Having no permanent drummer at the time, the group employed VICTORY's Fritz Randow to session. Upon AYERS ROCK's demise Sakowsky and Baumann forged BLOODSTONE first enlisting Daniel Stevenson, bass player Gordan Pendelic and drummer Raik Schneider.
The debut EP, '2000 Down The Line', the very first release from the newly established Long Island Records, featured a cover of DEEP PURPLE's 'Soldier Of Fortune'. These sessions saw Michael Kostak on drums. However, the group fractured, regrouping with a new rhythm section of bassist Vito "Bobo" Popovic and drummer Andy Green.
The group covered DAVID BOWIE's 'Ziggy Stardust' for their full-length album 'Valley Of The Machines'. Zero Corporation released the album in Japan billed 'Fight For Jerusalem', combining the album and EP tracks. Popovic was replaced by Chris Becker for live work. Unfortunately the collapse of Long Island Records signalled the end for BLOODSTONE.
BLOODSTONE guitarist Daniel Stevenson subsequently forged MOUTHFUL OF FLIES. Andy Green forged DAYS OF WORTH.
