Some bands just do not get it. A rehearsal demo is not something that the world should be tormented with and it is indeed a bad start for a band to begin with. Yes, everyone wants to be famous, wants to draw attention to ones feeble human being, this composition of flesh and bones that is so easily hurt and destroyed. The soul wants something to stay and something to live on after the physical hull has lost is purpose and is no more than food for the worms. RAT has released a first demo and it sucks. Not only is the Beherit cover absolutely horrible done, also the rest of the compositions have the quality of vampiric essence: just as you shed light on it, all of it turns to an indistinguishable dust which will soon be blown away by the wind and vanish from sight forever.
RAT plays – or rather tries to – black metal. How was it done? Simplistic written and plain riffs, which are repeated over and over again; a song-structure that is so monotonous and predictable that it is hard to keep attention and not to fall asleep; vocals that have no power and reminds the listener on the fact that not everyone has the ability to ‘croak’ and it would be possible to go on this way. RAT is not a one-man-band, but the resemblances to the compositions of this particular type of line-up are nevertheless apparent: boring and very repetitive written tracks. What the music of this band lacks of is simply something that would motivate the listener to pay more attention to it. All is too mediocre and nothing outstanding. Even ten years back in time would this release not have been praised and today, well, with the masses of bands that are currently at the disposal of every black metal enthusiast, RAT would find it in the current situation impossible to get any larger attention. 15 points for some nice riffs.
