Additional notes
Cynic: A member of a group of ancient Greek philosophers who taught that virtue constitutes happiness and that self-control is the essential part of virtue.
Cynic released only one critically acclaimed album before ceasing to be in 1994. The four last members went on to form Gordian Knot.
The band reunited in 2006.
Fact: According to Paul Masvidal, the recording of "Focus" did not occur as soon as the ink on their contract dried. Sean Reinert and him were still obligated to tour Europe as part of Death, and their equipment was confiscated when Death got into a big financial problem, but they retrieved their gear six months later. Ironically, in August 1992, the day they were set to record the album (with newly recruited bassist Sean Malone), Hurricane Andrew struck Florida destroying Jason Gobel's home and trashing the band's rehearsal space, which led to another three-months delay. Undated, the band used the time to write new material, most of which was used for "Focus."
