Extended info
Agility metal from Canada
Guitar hero Dave Martone has pretty agile fingers. This becomes more than clear during the album's 75 minute runtime. The main genre is progressive instrumental metal, but the influences are so many that sometimes it feels like you were listening to an album of thousand influences. Prog rock, jazz fusion, power metal, experimental rock, techno, classical music, alternative metal and instrumental metal - just to name few - are all dancing around the camp fire hand in hand. I could imagine that at least the fans of Buckethead should be excited of When the Aliens Come. Simply superb stuff.
The production is so good, that it probably makes the album feel even better than it really is. Whoever has mixed and produced When the Aliens Come, obviously knew what he/she was doing. A lot of thought has been put to many very clever details. Listen to the song "Mike Crow's Mailbox of Doom!", for instance. Now there's some dynamics for you.
"Mike Crow's Mailbox of Doom!" surely is one of the highlights of the album, but my favorite track however is "Techno Bee'z", which is a cover of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's famous classical piece "Flight of the Bumble-Bee". Fucken awesome.
And naturally Arnold Schwarzenegger appears on the album as well.
PS. My friends and my younger brothers hate the term "agility metal". And I thought it was a funny joke.
