Additional notes:
They were a mallcore band, but then went to a sound that combines old Machine Head (USA) with some Pantera influence as well as the clean vocals of middle-era Fear Factory at times.
Despite how the first full length "Pass Out of Existence" was presented with its mallcore sound, Mark Hunter hated being labeled as "nu-metal/rap metal" because he claims that "People were comparing us to Korn, but we never came from anywhere like that... we grew up on Slayer (USA), Machine Head (USA), Metallica, In Flames... we basically grew up listening to true metal and never really liked any of that nu-metal stuff..."
Chimaira is derived from the monster in Ancient Greek mythology, the 'Chimaera'. Comprised of three lethal parts (the head of a lion, the body of a goat and the tail of a dragon) the Chimaera breathed fire and fear into the hearts of many. There are several spellings of the word. Other proposed names at the time included "Sphere", "Rupture" and "Blood for Nine".
