Additional notes:
Played their final show of their very last tour entitled "The End" in Birmingham, England on February 4th, 2017. The band initially retired from large scale touring after the show, but later announced that they broke up.

Black Sabbath are generally considered both the first heavy metal and doom metal band. Originally they were called Polka Tulk (featuring a saxophonist and slide guitarist in their line-up) before changing to Earth, a name they had to change again because of confusion with another band of the same name. They may have also went by the name The Earth Blues Company in their pre-Black Sabbath days.

Originally, they started as a blues-influenced hard rock group, but as they progressed they added more European folk elements to their sound, a sound that wasn't like any other group during their time. Thus, this was known as heavy metal, and in due time, the band became what is now known as doom metal. Their lyrics dealt with darker issues than most conventional rock as well.

Accordingly, the "doom" genre name came from their Paranoid release with the song called "Hand of Doom." Stoner metal is another sub-genre that is a direct descendant from this band.

The Mob Rules line-up of Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Ronnie James Dio and Vinny Appice reunited in 2007. Rather than using the Black Sabbath name (as the original line-up is still officially in place), they were called Heaven & Hell, after the first Dio-era album. Three new tracks were recorded for a compilation album of Dio-era Sabbath material before they officially reformed under the Heaven and Hell name.

On May 13th 2006, Black Sabbath were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, becoming arguably the first heavy metal band to receive that honor.

On November 11, 2011, the original members of Black Sabbath officially announced that they would record a new album and tour again in 2012.

On May 19th, 2012, Geezer Butler announced that Tommy Clufetos would be the drummer for the band at three live shows. Original drummer Bill Ward had issued a statement saying that he would not join the reunion because of an "un-signable contract".

On September 3rd, 2015, Black Sabbath announced that they would embark on their final tour, titled "The End", which took place from January 2016 to February 2017. The band's final show took place at the Genting Arena in Birmingham on February 4th, 2017.

Michael Bolton (the pop singer) auditioned for Black Sabbath after Ronnie James Dio left for the first time. He sang "Heaven and Hell", "War Pigs" and "Neon Knights".

In the bonus documentary of Heaven & Hell "Live from Radio City Music Hall" video, it is said (by a roadie/technician, showing the image on one of his tattoos) that the classic winged demon picture come from the same or similar image which Iommi saw once on a promoter's pass: liking it, he "stole" it for the band since then.

Unreleased:
When I Came Down (demo, 1969)
1. When I Came Down
2. The Wizard
The lengths for these particular tracks are unknown, the '02:00' for "When I Came Down" comes from a 45 second sample of the track that was released on a live bootleg, and later looped for a YouTube upload.

BLACK SABBATH: "Назад, к истокам"

Specific track remarks:
#1 End Of The Beginning (8:07). Too long a track for an opener but otherwise very good. Very heavy. Ozzy’s vocals don’t evoke dragons and knights and the soaring evil of Dio… rather, they have a melodic but, unsettling quality to then. Not operatic bombast, but understated, melodic eeriness. But it works. This is not the uninspired songwriting of those two songs from the Reunion album — this is real songwriting with some good riffs from Iommi. A very good song.

#2 God Is Dead? (8:54). This song slays. Very cool riffing and a good melody line. The B section is evocative of the "Holy In The Sky" riff but it still works really well. This is an excellent song, worthy of standing with anything in the Ozzy catalog (thought it lacks the instant memorability of "Iron Man" or "Paranoid").

#3 Loner (5:06). Sounds a LOT like a heavy, modern-production version of NIB (I even sang 'Oh yeah' after the appropriate riff). Lyrically and mood-wise it mixes in some Johnny Blade. It’s a good song, but not as good as the previous ones.

#4 Zeitgeist (4:28). Mellow, and somewhat evocative of "Planet Caravan". It’s fine, but I anticipate skipping this on CD.

#5 Age Of Reason (7:02). This song kills. My notes (again, scratched in there by keys) are unintelligible. But this one had people pretty fired up.

#6 Live Forever (4:49). Has a "Children Of The Grave" / "Hole In The Sky" feel once again. A good song, if not as ambitious as some of the others.

#7 Damaged Soul (7:43). Very heavy blues. Too bluesy for my tastes. Blues blues and more blues, and when you are done with the blues, it shoves another does of blues up your ass. This is overstated — it’s plenty heavy. It just is too (wait for it) bluesy for my tastes. Others enjoyed it more than me. Still, this is not a throwaway, just not one of my favorites.

#8 Dear Father (7:06). A great song to finish with, again quite heavy with a lot of energy. The B section is the one featured in the video with Rubin telling Ozzy to try again ("… the victims of the sins you devise") The main section is beefier than that part. There is a recurrent tritone riff that is very evocative of the first notes played in the song Black Sabbath. It’s so evocative that one wonders if it’s purposeful… and the riffs appears again at the very end of the song… and then the song ends… with rain… and church bells. Very cool. Very cool indeed.

Можно "Master of Reality" и "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath".
