Hielo Negro was born in 1996, in the cold land of Punta Arenas, Patagonia, in the southern part of Chile. The band consisted of Marcelo Palma (vocals, guitar), Carlos Carbacho (bass) and Christian MacDonald (drums). With this line-up, Hielo Negro recorded its first demo tape.
In 1999, the band decided to move to Santiago, where they found a new bassist: Pablo Navarrete. In April 2001 they recorded their first full length: "Demonio Parlante". During 2002, Hielo Negro released a split album with the band Yajaira.
In July 2003, the band did its first European tour.
