Epistasis is a New York City experimental metal quartet that aim to make their music as confrontational, polarizing, and plain unsettling as possible. Light Through Dead Glass is the band’s new six track EP and the second release from this fairly new act. Epistasis combine elements of black metal, technical metal, noise, classical and others into a malevolent stew that is unfit for human consumption. But you would be wise to taste this psychotic concoction, because it is far too good to pass up. For the next 27 minutes, you belong to Epistasis.

Лично я идентифицирую данный материал, как Avant-Garde Black Metal, не больше, и не меньше. Музыка больная, шизофреничная и в основной своей массе неудобоваримая. Всё здесь опирается на зыбкий и непредсказуемый тремолирующий фундамент, разрастаясь буйными паслёновыми гроздями заунывных труб (духовой музыкальный инструмент), неуместно-странной дудочки (тоже духовой, тоже иструмент), грустной переборной акустической гитары, и озвучено (подобно тому, как озвучивают фильмы) противным маньячным скримингом, принадлежащим, как оказалось впоследствии, девушке по имени Эми Майлз. (Тот факт, что она девушка, увы, не делает её вокал ни на йоту приятнее.) В других выражениях могу обрисовать ситуацию примерно так: берётся обыкновенный блэк-металл, после чего он извращается в два этапа - сначала всячески заморачивается тремольный блэковый рифаж, затем (второй этап) к полученной форме добавляются всяческие описанные выше несуразности (трубы, дудочки и прочая хрень). В эмоциональном отношении это музыка неуравновешенная, пропитанная психозом, вызывающая тревожные некомфортные ощущения, напрочь лишённая гармонии. Я добросовестно пытался найти на протяжении всех 26-ти минут что-нибудь стоящее, сильное, но так и не нашёл. Единственный отрезок, который хоть сколько-нибудь порадовал на мини-альбоме - это кусочек 03:02-03:27 в треке Finisterre, да и тот неплох лишь на фоне остального. Оценю релиз всего на 5.5/10, ибо звучит он, на мой взгляд, преимущественно, неудобоваримо. Не рекомендую.
