"For a long time French Metal did not really have a good reputation, now with INVICTUS we have another newcomer, who tries his luck, in their case in the wide field of Power Metal. Now bands like KILLERS (for many, many years now) or NIGHTMARE are very good examples for the successful combination of this country and this style, so the question is: Can INVICTUS, too, work on a better reputation of their local scene?

I'm afraid not really, yet at the same time they also do absolutely nothing to make it any worse. Like said, they have chosen Power Metal as their metier and it has gotten very hard to excel for a young band in this particular sub genre and "Black Heart" is a solid release that will, just as a rough guess, most likely hopelessly go under in the flood that has soaked the Metal scene all over. So no real shine to be detected here.

But as negative as this may read, the compositions to be found on this debut album are not bad at all. Their main problem is just that while being good, they are very inconspicuous among their colleagues and competitors, making them blend in with the masses, yet not letting them stand out. Ok, one thing sticks to my mind, fronter Frederic Glo, who has a strong French accent in his English and also at times sounds a little pressed, but that is only a minor "flaw", if you want to call it like that.

Songs like "Redemption", "The Strongest" or "The Ancestor" are well crafted and executed, but the others are just that one or two steps shy of having their own identity or that certain something needed to give it the extra kick to stick to your memory like a fish on the hook.

So I cannot really say much negative things about INVICTUS here, other than that they just could not add that special flavour to their compositions yet, the foundation is set, with the next try they will have to deliver, otherwise they will go into the eternal hunting grounds more or less unnoticed… (Online May 17, 2003)"

Редко из Франции что-нибудь стоещее приходит, но эта групп - просто супер! Странно, что они ещё как HEAVENLY не популярны.
