После скоростного мощного 'Reign In Blood' 1986 года, Slayer решил доказать своим поклонникам, что бешеная скорость - это отнюдь не самый главный их козырь. Нарочито замедленный 'South Of Heaven' (1988) раскрывает нам совершенно другую грань творчества группы - мелодичную..
9-10/10
Объединив позднее на "Seasons In The Abyss" все составляющие - мощь, драйв и мелодику - Слэйер достиг ошеломляющего результата, с тех пор непревзойденного никем за последние 18 лет.

тут нет ни одной нешедевральной вещи. South Of Heaven - музыкальное чудо, один из сильнейших музыкально альбомов вообще и в метале - в частности.
такой филигранной аранжировки я более ни припомню, а барабаны тут просто божественны - Дейв не стучит, а именно играет на ударных, и этот инструмент на этом альбоме играет роль не меньшую, чем наполненные мрачным мелодизмом гитары Джеффа и Керри.
этот альбом можно слушать вечность.

На этом альбоме в качестве соавтора песен все чаще выступает Арайа. Замедленный ритм, "мелодичность" - Slayer предстает перед слушателями в новом свете.
Для меня - альбом очень ровный, без провалов, но все-таки не самый мною любимый.
