За исключением первой песни The Song Remains the Same (звучит почти как насмешка), The Ocean и, фрагментарно, Over the Hills and Far Away, тяжелого рока здесь и нет, а уж блюз-рока - и подавно.
Считаю, что этот альбом (как и последующие два) является собственным вариантом прогрессивного рока, причем в значительной степени - на базе фолка (но, например, The Crunge недалеко ушла от джаз-рока). При этом упор делается на гитарную работу, а не на клавишные (хотя их тоже можно услышать, в частности - в финале Over the Hills and Far Away).
Отдельно хочется упомянуть брызгающий энергией и раздолбайством рэгги D'yer Mak'er.
Вершина релиза - No Quarter, в которой есть место каким угодно соло, отличной вокальной партии, завернутому тексту, печали и прекраснейшей мелодической линии.

П.с. Песня с названием Houses Of The Holy вошла на следующий альбом Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti (1975)
П.п.с. По утверждению Планта идея обложки, на которой дети прыгают по камням мегалита (название не помню) была навеяна текстом No Quarter.
