Неровный альбом, но, в целом, очень и очень сильно.

Продолжаю нааслажаться классикой. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/20.gif) Понравилось.

Чуть ли не единственные, кто выпускал альбомы раз в год (по крайней мере в первой половине 80-х, в период с 81-го по 84ый годы) и при этом каждая, каждая (!) композиция становилась шедевром, узнаваемым с пары нот.

Исторически переломный альбом - первый с участием Брюса Дикинсона и последний с Кливом Барром.

И, конечно, просто нельзя не сказать восторженных слов в адрес Стива Харриса. Линия баса создаёт дополнительный мелодический слой (наглядно в 'The Prisoner' и в 'Run to the Hills'), достаточно независимо звучащий относительно ритма. Удачный микс позволяет это сполна оценить.

Альбом дико крутой, например, на мой взгляд, кроме невразумительной открывающей композиции (которую, впрочем, многие найдут не такой плохой) здесь проходняка нет. Практически все песни с альбома - 100% хиты и фирма, узнаваемая с первых нот.

С приходом Дикинсона группа сильно прибавила в вариативности: в прошлом остались не только «провалы» в медленных песнях, но и появилась эпическая и повествовательная интонация, что можно наблюдать в Children Of The Damned и Hallowed Be Thy Name. Далее надо отметить такой момент: бывали и до этого соло на басу, но на моей памяти (это что касается хронологии публикации подобных вещей) в финальной части 22, Acacia Avenue впервые было такое, чтобы одновременно игрались и басовое, и гитарное соло, да еще и ритмическая партия, исполняемая вторым гитаристом, не страдала простотой. В плане хитов – практически полностью альбом состоит из них, но идущие подряд The Prisoner/22, Acacia Avenue/The Number Of The Beast/Run To The Hills и завершающая Hallowed Be Thy Name настолько запали в памяти, что спокойно могу напеть их.
П.с. Уже давно существует желание назвать The Number Of The Beast первым прог-металлическим альбомом. Согласен, что здесь нет эпических двадцатиминутных музыкальных полотен (они будут, но позже), но это целиком и полностью искупается насыщенностью номеров, составляющих альбом.

Уже давно существует желание назвать The Number Of The Beast первым прог-металлическим альбомом.

Не вижу принципиальной разницы по этой части между ним и дебютом. А вот между сабжем и, к примеру, вторым Fates Warning разница есть, и довольно существенная. И даже ранние Mercyful Fate в этом плане выглядят посолиднее.

Скорее в целом композиторский уровень поднялся. Вариативности у них на том же Killers выше крыше (за счёт таких номеров, как Prodigal Son, например, подобных которому у группы придётся ждать аж до 2003-го года), и повествовательный элемент присутствовал - на семиминутном эпике с дебюта.
