Первые аккорды первой композиции - гениальности не замечено...

Неплохо! Правда, чистого вокала многовато. Со скримо-гроулом гораздо мощнее.

Дебютный альбом тогда ещё бельгийцев, а ныне британцев. Группа с первого альбома заявила о себе, как о не совсем тривиальном явлении в погребальном думе. Конечно же, ультрамедленный темп, клавиши под орган - аттрибуты многих фюнеральщиков, а вот мерные чистоголосые хоры и периодические скоростные агрессивные отрезки с бласт-битами - уже куда более оригинальное явление в этом стиле. Хоры, надо сказать, очень кстати, ибо рык клавишника-вокалиста (и по совместительству мастермайнда группы) не слишком убедителен. Посему считаю, что тенденция использовать его нечасто и топить за хоралами - очень правильная. Кстати, насколько я понимаю, партии чистого вокала в большинстве треков исполняет опять же лидер группы, во всяком случае я не нашёл никакой инфы в буклете о приглашённом хоре. Также есть акустическая гитара и ещё какие-то экзотические инструменты. Главное, что отличает музыку по характеру от прочего фюнерала - это эпичность. Она создаётся объёмным, атмосферным звуком и этими самыми хоровыми распевами, ну ещё орган добавляет. Открывашка альбома не сказать, чтоб была очень сильна, но настраивает на нужный лад. Следующие за ней эпичная 14-минутная Don't Mourn и красивейшая Time (с неожиданным гитарным соляком в конце) поинтереснее. Envy Us - цитирует Шопеновскую Прелюдию №20, которая вообще довольно любима различными метал-группами. Ну и 18-минутная Curse the Morning Light - кульминация альбома, если не в плане музыкальных идей, то в плане создания настроения уж точно.

10/12. Возможно, альбом скучноват, но это музыка не на каждый день, и слушать её желательно в соответствующем настроении. Подобравший правильный настрой - однозначно получит свой час кайфа.

P.S. Обложка переиздания, которая с аллеей в тумане в безлюдном парке, куда лучше отражает дух альбома, чем ужасно прорисованная оригинальная.
