Abigail's Mercy is an English band that likes to combine Gothic music with Euro-metal in the vein of Nightwish and Lacuna Coil. They have two vocalists, one female and one male of course. They frequently trade off vocals though the male vocalist Steve, who also plays bass, handles a larger percentage of the vocals. This is the biggest problem that the band has to my ears since his vocals are rather weak and powerless. There isn't any desperation or desolation to them. They just sound kind of whiny, which can lead to a rather annoying record. Lindsey the female vocalist isn't all that good either to be honest, but she is the better of the two. She sounds better when delivering the multitracked backing vocals. Problems arise when she takes the lead however. She tries to get down and dirty but comes off rather grating instead. The music is also rather uninspired Gothic rock the likes of which we've all heard many times over. This would probably be a generic record at best were it not for the vocals that drag it down into the range of bad. Even the most diehard love-it-all fans of the genre probably wouldn't be able to love this record.
