The band started in 1994 under the name Frost, releasing a four song rehearsal demo called Darkness Will be Eternal in 1995. The music was much more primitive and raw. Then in '97, they changed their name to Angmar.
The name is taken from Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, more precisely the realm of the Witch-King (the Lord of the Nazgûl) in the far north of the Misty Mountains.
