The band disbanded in 2012 and right away Akrotheism was created. Akrotheism is not a follow up of Astral Aeon but only shares some of the same members.
The band is inspired by several works of writers like H. P. Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe, and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
