Among several Finnish children's metal and hard rock bands, Hevisaurus is the first one to release an album consisting mostly of original music.
While the real names of the actual line-up have not been released, among the artists on the full-length album are Mirka Rantanen (Thunderstone), Jens Johansson (Dio, Yngwie J. Malmsteen, Stratovarius), Henrik Klingenberg (Sonata Arctica), Mikko Kosonen (Maija Vilkkumaa), Nino Laurenne (Thunderstone, Antidote) and Mikko Salovaara (Kiuas).
The band has released two MP3 singles, "Jurahevin kuninkaat" and "Viimeinen mammutti", before the release of the full-length.
A very aggressive disagreement between the musicians, especially Rantanen, and a Finnish label has recently erupted. Both sides claim to own the rights to the Hevisaurus name and brand, and it seems likely that a court case will be unavoidable in the future.
Rantanen announced that the band will continue under a new name, SauruXet, to circumvent the problems with Sony. The band released a new album under the new name in September 2011.
There is a South American version of this band called Heavysaurios, based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as well as a German version called Heavysaurus. The songs are the same, with the lyrics being in Spanish and German, respectively.
