Band Info & Bio:
The band was found by Yzokras (vocals, synths) and Zoltan (guitars, bass, synths) after many years of friendship and a short period of musicianship. The members decided at the very beginning that the band would be formed by only two of them and the rest of the instrumental parts would be performed by guest musicians. In couple of months four songs were created. Out of them three songs (If The Forest Comes Into Leaf, This Winter In My Heart, Crimson Waters) are still in the repertoire of the band, though they are not played in their entirely original versions.
In summer of 2001, after couple of small live performances, they started to record their songs at Christoff Studio. At this time the sound of de profundis was completely influenced by bands like Darkthrone, Burzum or early Ulver. Only one song, entitled To My Last Breath, didn’t fit in the true black metal category with its heavy metal riffs and clean vocals. However, the band didn’t finish the demo, because after many personal problems they split and all the recordings were destroyed.
After the separation the members hardly kept in touch for almost 7 years. Yzokras stayed in Hungary focusing on his studies, Zoltan left his forefathers’ land and went to London in order to rearrange his life.
The old friends met again on a metal festival in August of 2008. After a long talk and couple of pints the idea of a de profundis reunion came up and took form. In autumn they started writing new songs and on the 1st of November 2008 the song Crimson Waters was recorded at Zoltan’s home studio and it was published on youtube, receiving many good comments.
Meanwhile, it came clear that the new songs weren’t written in order to fit in the minimalist, old school black metal category. Synths became more and more dominant in the songs, ambient and acoustic parts were composed together with some lofty choirs. The new material was recorded during winter and spring at Sultan Studio. By the time summer arrived they recorded the bases of 11 songs - a whole album.
Out of these songs the band chose 3 songs, together with a short piano piece, and sent them to Denevér Stúdió for mastering. These 4 songs are representing the first demo of de profundis, which is actually their third one in a certain point of view.
It was released in October under the title Haunted By Ill Angels Only.
December 2009:
I Will Stand was chosen by Hungarian Metal Hammer and it was released as part of the „Over The Under vol. 3.” CD compilation in the December-January/2009 issue.
