Be Subtle! is an instrumental progressive solo act from The Netherlands. Reinout Haank started in January 2019 with the first single ‘Education’ and the plan to release a new song every month. This happened and that format is still going strong. A new song is written, recorded, mixed, mastered and released in a month. This has formed some imperfect songs but that has been both the challenge and the goal of Be Subtle! since the start. Imperfection is a part of what makes the music stand out.
The name Be Subtle! came from Reinout’s feeling that almost everything had to be either extremely big or extremely small and he felt there was more need to “Be Subtle!” The extra exclamation was added to both further emphasise the point but also to add a little contradiction in the bandname.
Even with this way of releasing single songs every month, Be Subtle! still work trough a sort of album format. All songs that are released in a year are have song titles that refer to the full ‘album’ they are all on. In 2019 all songs were part of the full album ‘The Age of Reputation’. In 2020, the album ‘The Battles, Picked’ is being released one song at a time.
