Written and performed by a person calling himself ‘Lurker’ you just know this is going to be filthy Black Metal. Bits of soil cover the whole studio and recording equipment. In fact, this was probably recorded in a hole dug by his own hands at the side of a field somewhere! Get the picture? Not to be mistaken for super raw nastiness, Crude Burial features good low budget production values that really cement some good song writing ideas and a fusion of styles firmly into Black Metal.

The USA’s Rusty Axe Records found this, harnessed it and then unleashed it upon us. The first thing that demanded my attention was the opening song title: ‘Urine-Soaked Tombstone’! As I once urinated disgracefully upon the headstone of someone unknown to me this title brought back a deluge of drunken memories. None of them pleasant.

This gritty sounding cacophony fades in for the first thirty seconds, the musical equivalent of unzipping one’s trousers, then immediately after a cursory snarl another grotty riff pisses forth against the side of your face leaving you soaked in the aforementioned dirty Black Metal. At one minute and thirteen seconds long I initially kept listening to this track for several plays to make it feel like a normal length song…and to get my head into it.

The next track carries on the theme of the first in a way; ‘Poisoned Water’ clatters out of the stereo with the percussion and bass revving the song up and it provides a wicked contrast from the first song.

Anal Rosary should be the soundtrack to one of those ancient black and white Frankenstein movies. The music doesn’t really sound like Black Metal but the singing persuades your brain that it is. Cleverly written stuff that drops into a kind of Black ‘n’ Roll rehearsal towards the end. Lord of Worms and Flies does it again using a similar approach by using a punk/hardcore riff as the base of the song.

Sacrilege and Blasphemy brings us back into the realms of true Black Metal though and offers us sirloin of ‘Transilvanian Hunger’ marinaded in it’s own inimitable juices on a piss-gilded platter of homage. Noisy and full of anger it highlights the effectiveness of the production, enriching the sound with impurity. Pale and Languid slows the pace down and features four minutes of chaos. There’s a superb dose of undead moaning and howling.

As there are 14 tracks on this album I’ve presented only my favourites, those I haven’t mentioned are no inferior to those I have making this an extremely consistent album. Tracks one to nine are the actual album recordings but the rest are bonus tracks of sorts. Track ten was unreleased from 2008 and eleven to fourteen from a private release from 2006. Most of the songs are short and concise and weigh in at about two and a half to three and a half minutes in length.

Its a surprise to hear an album rammed full of so many different influences collected and enhanced by the dark power of Black Metal and under-production. It just goes to show that you don’t have to be born direct from a goat’s dry and scabby vagina or the sulphurous rectum of Lucifer’s concubine to create harshly intense music. Blasphemous Crucifixion have delivered a shrieking multi-limbed mutant child of an album that is every bit as, if not more, gruesome and evil as the ultra-evil fraternity.
