Biography:
In 2004 two brothers, Tuomas and Raimo formed a band called Corvus Corax. They soon began writing songs and recording them at home. The songs were quite harsh (both musically & production-wise), melodic mid-tempo death metal. At some point the band's name was changed to Kaarnekorpi and they started writing lyrics in Finnish. The new songs had also some folk influences. The duo made several recordings during 2004-2008, until Raimo decide to leave the band for Tuomas.

Tuomas felt the urge to change Kaarnekorpi into a "real" band with regular band practices and live shows, so he started to look for new members. Kimmo (vocals) and Pekka (drums) were easily recruited, since they were Tuomas' old band mates from their high school heavy metal act Improbatur. Even though Kimmo didn't have any previous experience as a singer, he seemed to fit well right away. Tuomas got to know Juho (synth) through mutual studies at TUT. Juho was mainly a drummer, but since he had started his musical career as a keyboardist, he began to play the synth. Also the last two missing pieces of the puzzle, Lauri (bass) and Janne (guitar) studied at the same university.

Kaarnekorpi started rehearsing and made a record (Demo 2009), which included 3 songs from the past. Kaarnekorpi also played their first gigs in 2009. Lauri left the band in autumn, but quickly a replacement was found. Tapio played his first gig as Kaarnekorpi's bassist after just a couple of band practices. Tapio had played together before with Juho in the power metal band Black Tower. In 2010 Kaarnekorpi released the Ukon Mahti -EP, which contained five completely new songs. The year was quiet gig-wise, but the band rehearsed actively and forged new material. Furthermore, new strength was added to the live-sound, as Janne began to growl backing vocals.

In the beginning of 2011 a new member was introduced to the ranks of Kaarnekorpi, when Johanna joined the band as a backing vocalist. This gave the band more contrast and diversity to their sound. This far 2011 has been the most active year for Kaarnekorpi. They re-recorded a couple of old songs, managed to get to the final round of a local band contest and played their first festival show ever at Selviytyjät Private MetalFest. Saattaja demo was released at the very end of 2011 coupled with new web site and logo.

Currently the band is rehearsing fiercely for a full-length album and looking for gigs.
