Started in January 1992 by Aphazel as a one-man band.
Originally Ancient was a Norwegian band (from Eidsvaagneset). Aphazel moved to the USA late 1995 and recruited a whole new band there, but after 3 years decided to relocate to Italy after having met Deadly Kristin. He is currently (as of March 2011) residing in Greece, where it was declared that he had shortened his name to Zel.
Ancient appeared on the King Diamond Tribute released by Necropolis Records in 2000 covering the song "Halloween."
