'Cerebus Effect' was founded by drummer Patrick Gaffney and guitarist/keyboardist Joseph Walker The band combines different styles like fusion, metal, symphonic and avant-garde.Comparable groups are 'Sleepytime Gorilla Museum' and 'Djam Karet'.
They released 2 EPs ("Live at Orion" with Louis Sherman on bass and "Dark Matter" with Mike Galway on bass) prior to the full-length "Acts of Deception" in late 2005, which added keyboardist Dan Britton.
The main elements on "Acts of Deception" are Jazz-Rock ('Mahavishnu/Holdsworth' style, but also occasionally of the Canterbury style) and metal ('Planet X', 'King Crimson', 'YYZ'). There are some explorations into avant grounds and symphonic territories too, but the characterization of "Canterbury metal" might be the best way to describe the sound on "Acts of Deception".
