This band from Cyprus has combined some really nice power metal elements and created their own sound with dark and high vocals, fast rhythm parts, with clear keyboard/synthesizer sounds and good guitar work, especially in the solos.
...From the small island called Cyprus comes a dizzying album under the name Tales Of Tragedy. The band Winters Verge has refined his sound and now releases eleven new songs to the world to give the power metal a very nice boost.
The opening itself is as magic as the music. With a fade in brought by a catchy guitar part the song World Of Lies comes in. When the vocals begin, I know it is something nice. Not too high, not to low, but a bit raw and dark, but with a bit high pitches where needed. The solo has been divided between the keyboard and the guitar, which of course reminds of the more Finnish power bands.
With the beginning of Old Man’s Wish I have to think about the Swedish band Falconer (music and vocal wise). This band from Cyprus has a lot of elements from the northern style in his music and he is doing that with lovely precision. The song For Those Who Are Gone has to be mentioned, because this ballad holds the wonderful voice of George Charalambous. Only accompanied by an acoustic guitar and later on an electric guitar rips the victims with a brutal solo where after the rest of the instruments join in. This song is a great one to sing along with.
It is bringing in a nice atmosphere. But then there is another twist in the music of Winters Verge. The Captain’s Log has a bit of a folk or movie music oriented intro, played on keyboard. But it is just in the intro and in the break. For a more dark song I can point out Dark Entries, which has a lot of speed and a bit of dark atmosphere within the drums and guitar riffs. Reflections Of The Past would have been a great finisher of the very nice album, but the band put another song behind this one, Curse Of Time...
